Job Summary

WEC Energy Group's WIAF department is responsible for minimizing overall generation fuel costs and developing and implementing both short and long term energy plans to meet customer demand while effectively managing environmental goals, operational risk and market volatility. The WIAF team is looking for energetic, self-starters with strong analytical skills ready to pursue a career in the Energy sector, a complex industry which is continuously evolving- it takes a lot more than a flip of a switch to keep the lights on for our customers.  Our company is transforming our generation fleet with the addition of new technologies and renewable assets while maintaining and ensuring reliability and resiliency. 
 


As part of this cohesive team, this position provides key analytical and expert energy market support for high profile and key WEC initiatives and provides a great opportunity for growth and development. This position works with team members to support the company's electric utilities and non-regulated generation assets, which includes near-term fuel plan cost modeling, transmission and energy market analysis, long-term energy resource planning and supporting regulatory filings with state and federal commissions, and interfaces across all areas within the company, Senior Management and regulatory agencies. 
 


This position is part of a job family (Associate Business Analyst, Business Analyst, Senior Business Analyst, Principal Business Analyst) and experience will be the determining factor.

Job Responsibilities
  • Core responsibilities involve data analysis and forecasting, reporting, and continuous process improvement
    • Examples include:  
      • Analyze the transmission network to produce reliability assessments and develop plans to meet future system needs (i.e., solar, wind, batteries, natural gas, etc.)
      • Forecast electric fuel costs for regulatory fuel cost recovery, financial management, and long term resource planning using a fuel cost and capacity expansion model
      • Utilize performance monitoring/optimization tools, calculations, tests and engineering analysis to develop recommendations to maintain and improve plant, system and/or equipment performance, efficiency and reliability
      • Support the annual capacity auction process, generator interconnection process, and market modeling
      • Create reports to support transmission power flows, constraint impact analysis, and other complex analysis
      • Understand how our power generation units operate in the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) energy market and factors that impact those operations
      • Communicate with various groups inside and outside the company to investigate and resolve complex technical issues
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or Information Systems/Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline
  • The Business Analyst position requires at least 2 years relevant experience

Experience: 

  • Strong analysis, decision making and problem solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal) 
  • Ability to work as part of a team and interact effectively with others
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple tasks under time constraints
  • Experience working with project management methodology preferred
  • Proficient in standard office software (MS Excel, Visio, Word)
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of electric transmission or distribution system experience
  • 2+ years of utility industry experience
  • Strong, professional communication skills and attention to detail
  • Self-starter with a desire to learn, capable of working autonomously
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities and strategies

End Date: 06/05/2026 

Pay Range Minimum:  $68,436.68 

Pay Range Maximum:  $156,125.32 

The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs.  At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
