Description
RAM Aerospace is a leader in aerospace innovation, powering flight and space exploration with precision solenoids, valves, and actuators. Since 1975, we've supported missions like the Space Shuttle and continue to deliver mission-critical components for commercial, defense, and satellite systems. As one of Southern Utah's largest employers, we drive economic growth and offer high-skilled careers in engineering and manufacturing. From our advanced facility in St. George, we build the future of aerospace-on time, with excellence, and as a team. Join us to work on groundbreaking technology and help shape the future of flight and space exploration. Your career takes off here!
As our Quality Engineer, you are the architect of operational excellence. You don't just find errors; you engineer the systems and processes that prevent them from ever occurring. Reporting to the Quality Manager, you will lead high-level root cause investigations, drive continuous improvement using Lean and Six Sigma tools, and serve as the technical authority on our quality standards for both customers and suppliers. From facilitating APQP activities during new product development to analyzing complex statistical data to predict reliability, your work ensures that every flight-critical component we ship is "right the first time." If you are a data-driven engineer who thrives at the intersection of technical precision and process optimization, we want you on our team.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Root Cause & CAPA Leadership: Initiate and follow up on Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) and Non-Conformance (NC) reports. You will lead cross-functional teams through rigorous problem-solving exercises (5-Whys, Fishbone, 8D) to resolve system malfunctions and prevent recurrence.
- APQP & Preventative Quality: Support and facilitate APQP and PPAP activities to improve new product development. You will attend design reviews as the quality representative, ensuring that all 100% of design characteristics are accounted for in internal Quality Plans.
- Statistical Analysis & SPC: Develop and analyze statistical data to establish process standards and reliability expectancies. You will utilize Lean and Six Sigma tools to reduce in-line defects, minimize scrap, and optimize manufacturing yield.
- Audit & Compliance Management: Perform production and quality systems audits to maintain AS9100 compliance. You will prepare for and host customer and third-party auditors, ensuring all technical documentation and quality specifications are accurate and up to date.
- Supplier & Customer Interface: Act as the technical liaison for quality concerns and initiatives. You will work directly with suppliers to improve supply chain quality and establish strong rapport with customers by driving technical solutions that meet their specific mission needs.
- Design for Quality: Research and analyze design proposals and blueprints to evaluate feasibility and maintenance requirements. You will provide critical feedback to design engineers on customer needs and potential manufacturing difficulties to ensure a seamless transition to the shop floor.
Requirements
- Legal: Must be able to pass a comprehensive criminal background check and drug screening.
- ITAR: Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum (due to ITAR requirements).
- Education: Bachelor's degree (BS) in an engineering-related discipline is required.
- Experience: General knowledge of manufacturing processes and familiarity with Quality Assurance principles (inspection techniques, testing procedures, and statistical analysis).
- Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Strong familiarity with PPAP, APQP, and MSA is required. Experience with data collection and analysis methods leading to demonstrated improvements is strongly preferred.
- Certifications: ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) and/or Lean Six Sigma Green/Black Belt certifications are strongly desired.
- Soft Skills: Ability to communicate diplomatically and effectively at all levels. You must be a self-starter with strong analytical research skills and the ability to manage multiple high-priority tasks to completion.
