Applying to be a Classified Substitute
Classified Substitutes are individuals that substitute for our permanent employees, which includes our paraprofessionals, food service staff and custodians. Must be 18 years of age, a high school graduate/or GED and provide a Certification of Health for School Personnel.
After you have submitted your application you will be contacted by email, if Derby Public Schools wishes to continue the process of adding you to our pool of classified substitutes. An orientation is required prior to substituting.
Types of Classified Substitutes and Rate of Pay:
  • Custodial Sub - $13.76
  • Food Service & Maintenance Subs - $13.90
  • Instructional Support (except Health Room Aides) Subs - $13.36
  • Special Education Subs - $14.41
  • Health Room Aide Subs - $15.52
