Job description


Basic Purpose
Develops, analyzes, implements and supports the various geographic information system (GIS) needs for NV Energy. Allocates and tracks status of mapping assignments for regional area to ensure timely and accurate execution of work. Coordinates completion of department deliverables and provides regional reports. Researches and responds to inquiries from employees, customers and leaders of other departments. Oversees department operations in absence of supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Oversees and monitors completion of assignments to ensure business continuity. Tracks employee performance levels and identifies training needs.
Assigns tasks to employees in response to work load, factoring in timelines, resources and
budget constraints.
Maintains attendance records, prepares work schedules, ensures adherence and daily coverage for office hours. Approves time off for sick leave and/or vacation. Validates accuracy of employee time sheets for supervisor approval.
Verifies compliance with policies and procedures, and ensures employees receive proper training.
Assists supervisor with department goals, developing strategies for regional issues, budgets, performance reviews and hiring. Provides input to issues related to performance or discipline.
Meets with the regional customers and management on a regular basis to improve communication, customer service, processes, and mapping commitments for accurate and up-to date maps.
Collects, interprets and integrates relevant data from multiple sources such as maps, database tables, graphs, satellite and aerial images and geologic conditions.
Uses relational database management systems to perform spatial analysis and generate reports based on the analysis.
Prepares accurate GIS cartographic products to support utility operations.
Works with internal and external customers to understand and assist them in addressing business, operational and public service needs.
Serves as liaison to represent the company in meetings with local government agencies; businesses and community groups; and industrial organizations and associations.
Maintains a log to track all internal and external data requests, deadlines and project status. Consults with Legal department on all external map or data requests and maintains all correspondence and documentation for audit purposes.
Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Essential Education, Skills, and Environment
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor's degree in electrical or civil engineering, urban planning, geography, geographical information systems (GIS), environmental science or natural science from an accredited school and 6 years of experience in data analysis, exhibits or map creation for various situations, preferably involving geo-spatial and natural science data with 1 year of experience using GIS software's.
Candidates that do not possess a bachelor's degree must have a minimum of 10 years of experience in data analysis, exhibits or map creation for various situations, preferably involving geo-spatial and natural science data with 4 years of experience using GIS software's.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated experience with GIS and Mapping principles, practices and techniques of automated drafting and mapping; and relational databases. Demonstrated knowledge of geographic information system concepts and analytical techniques, including computerized mapping and attribute-data conversion, manipulation and analysis. Demonstrated understanding of principles and practices of relational database design, micro and mini-computers, drafting or mapping, peripheral equipment and computer system operations. Demonstrated understanding of global positioning systems (GPS), and land surveying concepts. Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Demonstrated communication including oral, written and presentation; interpersonal and leadership; project management skills. Demonstrated prioritization and handling multiple issues and projects concurrently.
