This role is part of Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering (ACE), supporting Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. The team fosters innovation and drives engineering workflows of the future, shared solutions and standards, simplicity and lower costs, and manufacturable design.
The Flight Sciences Engineering Manager leads a cross-functional engineering group within Enterprise Engineering Flight Systems, reporting directly to the Senior Director of Flight Systems. This role balances both leadership and technical responsibilities, building world-class tooling and methods in simulation, aerodynamics, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), navigation, and systems engineering.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and management of technology roadmaps in simulation, aerodynamics, CFD, and navigation
  • Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing Flight Sciences Engineers to build an effective, cross-functional team.
  • Collaborate with other teams and Business Unit stakeholders in defining the vision for Flight Sciences
  • Drive the engineering team to successfully execute development plans to meet expected program milestones
  • Define, track, and report metrics on both team performance and engineering deliverable quality to Flight Systems leadership. Develop multi-year resourcing level estimates for Flight Sciences Engineering
  • Provide day-to-day guidance, leadership, and mentoring to the individual contributors in the Flight Sciences team
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and ensure appropriate professional development opportunities
  • Provide hands-on and technical mentorship engineering expertise in one or more specialized areas (simulation, aerodynamics, CFD, navigation, or systems engineering)
  • Collaborate with other members of the Flight Systems Leadership Team to develop the annual operational budget.
  • Ability to work across multiple Blue Business units to develop tools and deliver useful products that enhances productivity

Minimum Qualifications
  • B.S. in Aerospace Engineering or related technical field
  • 7+ years of experience in simulation, aerodynamics, CFD, navigation, and/or systems engineering
  • Demonstrated success leading technical teams in complex aerospace engineering environments
  • Strong project, mentorship, and resource management capabilities
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts across different stakeholder groups

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience as a people manager
  • M.S.+ in Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
  • Familiarity with AI to build tools, products, and reports

Base Pay Range for:
WA applicants is $150,743.00 - $211,039.50

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
