Position Summary:
As a dispatcher, you will manage and direct work activities of drivers and coordinate the flow of goods to our retail stores efficiently, safely, and legally for our business. You will serve our customers efficiently and consistently while reducing the cost of deliveries through proper driver and equipment assignments and effectively routing inbound and outbound loads. You will use your skills to reduce road costs through innovate routing decisions which directly affect transportation revenue lines.

Duties and Responsibilities

Call stores to notify them of delivery schedule changes, delays, early arrivals, or any conflicts with accurate scheduling of deliveries
Dispatch available grocery/perishables loads and maintain delivery logs for all delivery tickets and outbound/inbound loads as drivers return with delivery tickets to ensure accurate flow of dispatch operations and on time arrivals and departures
Assist drivers when needed Set up salvage pick-ups when needed
Complete any required reports assigned
Effectively manage all aspects of work through use of the Transportation System
Coordinate with several work units to balance and reach projected daily workloads with contract carriers, including LTL & TL freight.
Act as a key contact person for all outside customers, interacting on a daily basis for scheduling pick-ups, deliveries, appointments between retail, for-hire and backhauls.
Coordinate planning and decision making in order to best aid the flow of operations of various groups throughout distribution
Assist in coordination receipt of priority loads between merchandisers and warehouse
Assist and help resolve payroll hours through clarification of job assignment
Coordinate work flow with other terminals
Meet all corresponding time for department start-ups and dispatch times in order to perform and complete all order routing and setup duties
Coordinate and assist in backhauls scheduling and processing by communicating with vendors, perishable, and grocery departments concerning unloading.
Communicate with other DC's on backhauls consigned to their facility when applicable
Ensure compliance with Delhaize America standards in the areas of accuracy, safety and productivity.

Requirements

 Able to reach, stoop, bend and lift up to and including 30 lbs.

Able to work in a warehouse environment with varying conditions (i.e. cool temperatures, concrete floors, powered industrial trucks)

 *Must be able to work night/day shift. 

Preferred Qualifications
High School Education
Knowledge of the transportation function along with a working knowledge of DOT regulations and requirement

Skills and Abilities
Excellent customer service, verbal, and written communication skills
Ability to meet production standards set by the company
Able to use personal computer for data entry and research purposes Highly motivated self-starter and team player with strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
