How much do perioperative tech jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 21, 2026, the average hourly pay for perioperative tech in the United States is $36.60, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $24.04 and $46.88 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Perioperative Tech, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Perioperative Tech, you need a solid understanding of surgical procedures, sterile technique, and basic patient care, often supported by completion of an accredited surgical technology program or certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST). Familiarity with surgical instruments, sterilization equipment, and electronic health record (EHR) systems is commonly required. Attention to detail, teamwork, and effective communication are vital soft skills in this role. These skills and qualifications are important to ensure patient safety, maintain sterile environments, and provide essential support to surgical teams in high-stress situations.

What jobs pay 10,000 a month without a degree?

Perioperative Techs typically do not earn $10,000 a month without additional certifications or experience. High-paying roles that can reach this level without a degree often include skilled trades like commercial pilots, real estate brokers, or sales managers, which rely on experience, licensing, or sales performance rather than formal education. These jobs may require specialized training, licensing, or a strong track record to achieve such income levels.

What are Perioperative Techs?

Perioperative Techs, also known as surgical technologists or operating room technicians, are healthcare professionals who assist in surgical operations. They prepare operating rooms, arrange equipment, and help doctors and nurses during surgeries by passing instruments and maintaining a sterile environment. Perioperative Techs play a crucial role in ensuring that procedures run smoothly and safely. Their responsibilities also include sterilizing tools, managing surgical supplies, and supporting patient care before, during, and after surgery.

Which pays more, CNA or surgical tech?

Perioperative techs generally earn higher wages than CNAs due to specialized skills and training required for surgical environments. CNAs typically have lower certification requirements and work in broader healthcare settings, resulting in lower pay compared to surgical techs, who often need certification and work directly in surgical or perioperative units.

What does a perioperative technician do?

A perioperative technician assists in surgical settings by preparing operating rooms, sterilizing equipment, and supporting surgical teams during procedures. They ensure a sterile environment, handle supplies, and may assist with patient positioning and documentation under supervision.

What are the typical responsibilities and collaborative interactions of a Perioperative Tech during a surgical procedure?

Perioperative Techs play a crucial role in the operating room by preparing surgical instruments, maintaining sterile environments, and assisting surgeons and nurses throughout procedures. They collaborate closely with surgical teams, ensuring all necessary equipment is available and functioning, and may also help with patient positioning and transport. The fast-paced environment requires strong communication skills and attention to detail, as Perioperative Techs must anticipate team needs and quickly respond to changing situations. Working effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff is essential for providing safe, efficient patient care.
