Perioperative Coordinator Jobs (NOW HIRING)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Coordinator – Perioperative Services is a registered nurse (RN) who has expertise in perioperative/procedural nursing practice and has demonstrated leadership and management skills. The Coordinator provides leadership and education for all staff on the unit and directs the planning, implantation and evaluation of patient care programs. The Coordinator has responsibility for oversight of the following areas: PAT, Ambulatory Surgery, Ambulatory Procedures, Operating Room, PACU, and Endoscopy. This position reports to the Director – Surgical Services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 MANAGEMENT OF PERSONNEL AND LEADERSHIP

a. Interview and select candidates who have appropriate clinical skills and professional characteristics to match patient needs.

b. Communicate on a consistent basis with employees regarding specific performance expectations. Plan and conduct formal performance reviews that are timely, ongoing, and objective.

c. Demonstrate and apply knowledge of employee expectations.

d. Promote/terminate employees based on standards of practice, standards of care, nursing and Oneida Health policies and procedures.

e. Interact with employees in a consistent, fair, timely, appropriate, and decisive manner in accordance with Oneida Health and Nursing Department policies.

f. Direct and develop leadership and management skills by mentoring and role modeling.

g. Delegate activities/work projects to employees and supervise their accomplishment.

h. Supervise interdisciplinary employees, including nurses and ancillary staff.

 MANAGEMENT OF RESOURCES

a. Direct adjustments in unit staffing pattern to reflect changes in care requirements, patient census, staffing resources, and clinical staffing plan.

b. In collaboration with the Director, develop the annual budget.

c. Adjust systems as necessary to meet budget and/or productivity targets for cost-effective quality care.

d. Analyze financial information monthly and complete exception reports with appropriate recommendations.

e. Support a decentralized management philosophy (Shared Governance) at the unit level by designing and supporting a system that facilitates employee involvement at the unit, Nursing Department, and Oneida Health level.

f. Assure that unit space is utilized or altered to maximize safety and efficiency. Collaborate with other departments to ensure unit maintenance and environmental safety.

g. Develop and monitor systems to assure cost-effectiveness by participating in the selection and use of materials and supplies, and monitoring charges.

h. Promote cost-effective behavior in staff through observation, education, and accountability.

i. Identify and resolve complex and recurring operational problems and consult with Director/ CNO when necessary.

CLINICAL PRACTICE

a. Develop and provide a patient care system that encourages professional practice of staff and results in quality, cost-effective care outcomes.

b. Assure that patient and family care is provided within Oneida Health standards.

c. Demonstrate clinical knowledge by providing consultation to staff, assisting with patient care as needed, and acting as a resource to staff and consultant to other departments throughout the organization.

d. Analyze clinical practice and identify opportunities to increase effectiveness and efficiency.

e. Identify clinical indicators to measure and evaluate quality care. Assure that appropriate quality monitoring occurs on unit and that findings are used to improve practice and reduce potential for patient complications.

f. Collaborate with physicians and other health care professionals to address patient and family needs.

g. Meet regularly with the MD department chairs and work collaboratively to effect change and develop protocols.

 EDUCATION/OUTREACH

a. Identify and establish clinical learning opportunities for students in various health care disciplines in the unit (as appropriate). In conjunction with nursing faculty, monitor students’ performance.

b. Implement and evaluate a systematic orientation program for new staff.

c. Develop and implement an ongoing unit-based continuing education plan for staff.

d. Participate in organization-wide education initiatives in collaboration with the education team.

e. Support Oneida Health’s mission through consultation and/or participation in health promotion, health education, and specialty requests from community agencies.

RESEARCH

a. Evaluate current research in nursing for applicability within units/ programs of care.

b. Apply results of quality assurance studies to identify and design process improvement projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (required); Master of Science in Nursing (preferred)

EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years of relevant experience. Progressive nursing management and/or educator experience with demonstrated success. Current regulatory, accreditation experience.

LICENSES & CERTIFICATION: Unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in State of New York (required); Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support (required); Certification in specialty (preferred).
