What is a periodontist in private practice?

A periodontist in private practice is a dental specialist who focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of gum disease and other conditions affecting the supporting structures of the teeth, such as the gums and bone. They also perform procedures like dental implants and gum graft surgery. In private practice, periodontists often work independently or in partnership with other dental professionals to provide personalized periodontal care to patients.

What are some of the common challenges periodontists face in a private practice setting?

Periodontists in private practice often encounter challenges such as managing a diverse patient caseload with varying degrees of periodontal disease, balancing clinical work with administrative responsibilities, and keeping up-to-date with the latest treatment techniques and technologies. Building and maintaining strong referral relationships with general dentists is also essential, as it directly impacts patient flow. Additionally, private practitioners must ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and provide a high standard of patient care, all while working collaboratively with dental hygienists, assistants, and office staff.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a periodontist in private practice, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Periodontist in private practice, you need advanced dental education (DDS or DMD) with specialized periodontics training and board certification. Expertise with dental radiography, digital imaging software, and specialized surgical instruments is typically required. Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and patient-centered communication set outstanding periodontists apart. These competencies ensure precise diagnosis, effective treatment, and high-quality patient care in a competitive dental practice environment.

  • Surgical placement of single and multi-unit implants

  • IV sedation for surgical cases

  • Surgical extractions of impacted third molars and complex cases

  • Osseous surgery, soft tissue grafting, ridge augmentation, and sinus lifts

  • Bone grafting and regenerative procedures

Flexible Setup:

  • Contractors who bring their own staff, instruments, and surgical kits are eligible for a higher collections percentage

  • Alternatively, use of the practice's surgical staff, equipment, and supplies is fully supported

Why Suburban Kansas City?
