Summary:
Autonomous leader who will be responsible for the Cardiovascular Perfusion program, including direct oversight of the staff of cardiac perfusionists and cardiovascular anesthesia technicians (CVAT). This individual will also manage perfusion related supplies for Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) Services by collaborating with the leaders of the Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Program and the Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) program at Maine Health Maine Medical Center Portland. Administrative duties include team management, budget preparation, purchasing and management of supplies and equipment and evaluation of new products. This individual must be able to collaborate, and problem solve with the multidisciplinary team. The ability to trend program growth and industry innovation to anticipate future needs for this program are imperative qualities. Work also includes the principal duties and responsibilities of a cardiovascular perfusionist.
Knowledge Skills And Abilities:
1) Education: Graduate of an accredited training program with a minimum of a bachelor's degree. A master's degree is preferred. Clinical experience as specified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion Technology.
2) License/Certifications: Certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion is required and is expected to be maintained. This includes a baseline clinical case requirement and maintenance of all continuing education hours required for a licensed perfusionist.
3) Experience: A minimum of five years of experience as a cardiovascular perfusionist to thoroughly understand the complexities of the job and be able to develop effective training programs. Skills include ability to concentrate for long periods of time and critically think and react quickly in emergent situations, above average manual dexterity, independent decision making associated with accepted practice in clinical perfusion, strong ability to anticipate and solve life threatening perfusion problems.
4) Pediatric perfusion experience is strongly preferred; management experience is required.
5) Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, physicians, administrators, and operating room personnel.
6) Must possess leadership qualities that include organizational and problem-solving skills that will aid in providing direction and support to the staff and programs.
