Job description

As a global leader in cybersecurity, CrowdStrike protects the people, processes and technologies that drive modern organizations. Since 2011, our mission hasn't changed - we're here to stop breaches, and we've redefined modern security with the world's most advanced AI-native platform. We work on large scale distributed systems, processing almost 3 trillion events per day and this traffic is growing daily. Our customers span all industries, and they count on CrowdStrike to keep their businesses running, their communities safe and their lives moving forward. We're proud to work for a mission-driven company leveraging AI to transform the way we work. CrowdStrikers drive their careers through flexibility and autonomy while also being expected to contribute to a culture of responsible AI adoption, experimentation, and innovation. We use an AI-first mindset as a force multiplier to proactively and continuously accelerate execution, build expertise, uncover insights, and solve complex problems. We're always looking to add talented CrowdStrikers to the team who have limitless passion, a relentless focus on innovation and a fanatical commitment to our customers, our community and each other. Ready to join a mission that matters? The future of cybersecurity starts with you.

About the Team:

Content Development (CD) is a team within the Endpoint Protection area of CrowdStrike-the area responsible for enabling detections and preventions of malicious behaviors on the Falcon Platform. The CD team focuses on strategic, forward-leaning research into new Falcon Sensor capabilities to identify the tactics and techniques used by adversaries. We accomplish this by focusing on OS security and internals across all major supported platforms (Windows, macOS, and Linux) and exposing the right data to the sensor in a supportable and performant manner. Most of our projects involve months of research, planning, coordination, and implementation to be successful. We currently support several key Falcon Sensor technologies that detection and response teams leverage to increase telemetry, alerts, and preventions on the platform.

About the Role:

As a sensor engineer within the Windows Content Development team, you will focus on the analysis and development of detection technologies for attack techniques across supported Windows OS versions. The role requires both research and implementation, working collaboratively to develop detection logic within the Falcon sensor's user-mode and kernel-mode components. These components observe system activity, recognize malicious behavior, provide on-box prevention and remediation capabilities, and send relevant security telemetry to the Falcon Cloud. You'll find creative and resourceful ways to detect and respond to Windows-specific threats while also developing cross-platform features that leverage telemetry from common OS subsystems such as file system, memory, process, and network activity.

Successful engineers in this role have a strong software engineering background, deep Windows Internals expertise, and significant experience in the security space. As a Senior Engineer, you'll serve as a key resource and subject matter expert for engineers across the team and the broader company, collaborating with a wide range of teams as you drive your own initiatives and contribute to other projects. You'll be expected to make meaningful contributions across the full development lifecycle - from initial concept through design, implementation, release, and post-release support. We pride ourselves on a quality-first mindset and are looking for engineers who thrive on being challenged and take ownership of what they build.

Location:

  • This is a hybrid role based out of Redmond WA, Sunnyvale CA, Austin TX, NYC, or Toronto ON with an expectation of being in the office at least 2 days per week.

What You'll Do:

  • Design and build detection logic and systems leveraged across teams within CrowdStrike to detect cyber attackers and stop breaches.

  • Research techniques for detecting malicious activity, including some reverse engineering and/or big-data analysis.

  • Leverage Domain-specific languages, C++, Python, and other tools as appropriate to extend Falcon Sensor capabilities.

  • Build elegant, robust, and reliable solutions for complex technical problems.

  • Own features from design to delivery, developing them into production-level solutions for deployment.

  • Apply engineering best practices-secure coding, testing paradigms, debugging, performance, code reviews, CI/CD, and OS internals-to ensure our sensor code is fast and reliable.

  • Obsess about learning, and champion the newest technologies & tricks with others, raising the technical IQ of the team.

  • Be an energetic 'self-starter' who champions for quality-first outcomes while being empowered to take ownership and be accountable for deliverables, both individually and when leading a project team.

  • Troubleshoot issues within the product when necessary, assisting customer support.

What You'll Need:

  • 5+ years of experience designing, developing and delivering high-quality Windows software in C/C++ or other low-level programming languages.

  • Demonstrated experience or interest in the fields of reverse engineering, threat detection, malware analysis, or related security topics.

  • Low-level OS knowledge of Windows operating system internals, components, APIs, and design.

  • Team player - able to lead, mentor, communicate, collaborate, and work effectively in a globally distributed team.

  • Proven experience utilizing AI technologies to enhance decision-making, streamline workflows and processes, improve efficiency and drive business outcomes.

Bonus Points:

  • Prior experience working on EDR / sensor products.

  • Prior experience working with low-level code, such as OS kernel, firmware or device drivers.

  • Prior security experience, particularly in exploit and vulnerability analysis.

  • Experience working with high-availability and big data systems.

  • Experience leveraging frontier AI/LLM technologies to accelerate developer velocity, increase feature quality, and improve overall team outcomes.

  • Experience working with large-scale automated test frameworks and infrastructure.
