Performance Nutrition Intern information

What is a performance nutrition intern?

Performance Nutrition Interns are students or recent graduates who assist sports nutrition professionals in supporting athletes' nutritional needs. They help with tasks such as meal planning, nutrition education, and research to optimize athletic performance and recovery. Interns often work under the supervision of registered dietitians or sports nutritionists and gain hands-on experience in both individual and team settings. This role is ideal for those pursuing careers in sports nutrition or dietetics and provides exposure to the daily operations of performance nutrition programs.

What does a performance nutrition intern do?

As a Performance Nutrition Intern, you’ll typically assist with tasks such as preparing and distributing athlete meal plans, organizing nutrition education sessions, and collecting dietary data for analysis. You may also help track hydration status, support the execution of fueling stations, and collaborate with dietitians to develop educational materials. Interns often work closely with athletes, coaches, and sports medicine staff, gaining hands-on experience in both individual and group settings. These responsibilities provide a strong foundation in applied sports nutrition and offer valuable exposure to multidisciplinary teamwork in an athletic environment.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a performance nutrition intern?

To thrive as a Performance Nutrition Intern, you need foundational knowledge in nutrition and exercise science, often supported by coursework or a degree in dietetics or a related field.
