Senior Project Manager – Interior Construction

Position Title

Senior Project Manager – Interior Construction

Reports To

Director of Operations / Vice President of Construction

Position Summary

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing multiple interior construction projects from pre-construction through project closeout. The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience in commercial interior construction, including drywall systems, metal framing, acoustic ceiling installations, specialty finishes, and tenant improvement projects. This role requires strong leadership, financial management, scheduling expertise, and the ability to successfully manage clients, subcontractors, field personnel, and project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Manage multiple commercial interior construction projects simultaneously.
  • Lead projects from estimating handoff through final completion and warranty periods.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, procurement plans, and staffing requirements.
  • Monitor project progress and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Ensure all projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
  • Conduct project kickoff meetings and ongoing project status meetings.
  • Review and approve project documentation, contracts, submittals, RFIs, and change orders.

Financial Management

  • Prepare and manage project budgets and forecasts.
  • Track labor productivity, material costs, subcontractor performance, and overall project profitability.
  • Review project cost reports and identify opportunities for cost savings.
  • Negotiate and manage change orders with clients and subcontractors.
  • Oversee project billing, collections, and financial reporting.

Client Relations

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for owners, general contractors, architects, and consultants.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Provide regular project updates and reports.
  • Resolve project issues and conflicts professionally and efficiently.
  • Identify opportunities for repeat business and new project opportunities.

Construction Operations

  • Oversee installation activities involving:
    • Metal stud framing
    • Drywall systems
    • Acoustic ceilings
    • Specialty ceilings
    • Interior finish systems
    • Doors, frames, and hardware
    • Tenant improvement construction
  • Coordinate field operations with Superintendents and Foremen.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, drawings, and industry standards.
  • Monitor quality control and project safety performance.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and mentor Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, and Project Engineers.
  • Provide coaching and performance feedback to project teams.
  • Assist with recruitment, training, and development of project management personnel.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Risk Management

  • Identify and mitigate project risks.
  • Review contract terms and conditions.
  • Manage claims, disputes, and project documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and construction experience considered.

Experience

  • 10+ years of commercial construction project management experience.
  • 5+ years managing interior construction projects.
  • Extensive experience with:
    • Drywall systems
    • Metal stud framing
    • Acoustic ceiling systems
    • Commercial interiors
    • Tenant improvement projects
    • Healthcare, education, office, retail, or government facilities preferred.
  • Experience managing projects valued from $1 million to $50+ million.

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of commercial construction methods and sequencing.
