Summary

Play a vital role at the very start of the production cycle. As a Chick Delivery Driver, you will safely and carefully transport and deliver broiler chicks to our contract growers, ensuring they arrive on time and in excellent condition. Your attention to animal welfare, safe driving practices, and reliable service will directly support the success of our growers and overall operations. This role is ideal for dependable, safety focused individuals who take pride in caring for animals and delivering exceptional service on the road.

This position has a wage of$32.13 per hour. Overtime may be available.
In addition to hourly wages, Perdue offers a competitive benefits package, including medical/Rx, pension plan contributions, critical illness, accident insurance, dental, vision, life insurance, optional group life insurance, short-term and long-term disability protection, flexible spending accounts and paid time off.

Principal Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare chick transport vehicles to receive up to 115,200 newly hatched chicks.
  • Ensure environmental requirements of temperature and air flow are within specs prior to loading.
  • Navigate a safe and cost-efficient route to Perdue contract farms. The goal is to get the chicks to the farm as quickly and safely as possible.
  • Perform routine, minor maintenance and sanitation of transportation vehicles.
  • Monitor, record, and report on farm conditions at the time of delivery.
  • Maintain FMCSA safe driving requirements, including but not limited to Hours of Service and Drivers Logs.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • High School or equivalent.
  • 2 years of experience.
  • Reading, writing and math skills.
  • Class A Commercial driver's license.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors

  • Exposed to both seasonal weather and climate-controlled conditions.
  • Ability to climb truck in the loading areas; use #5 sledgehammer.
  • Operate loading and delivery devices.
  • Operate a standard manual truck for up to 10 hours.
  • Operate a forklift.
  • Exposed to significant amount of airborne dust.
  • Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces.
  • May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity.
  • May handle products from 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db to 110 db.
  • May be exposed to all chemicals used in poultry, food, and processing facility.
  • You must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company.
