The Center for African Immigrants and Refugees Organization (CAIRO) is seeking a dynamic and relationship-driven Development Coordinator to help advance our fundraising, partnerships, and community engagement efforts during an exciting period of organizational growth.

CAIRO works to strengthen families and communities through programs in housing stability, workforce development, education, health, youth leadership, and economic mobility. As our impact continues to expand across Central Minnesota and beyond, we are looking for a motivated professional who can help deepen partnerships, elevate our public profile, and grow philanthropic investment in our mission.

Position Summary


The Development Coordinator plays a central role in advancing CAIROs fundraising, partnership development, and community engagement strategy. This position is responsible for strengthening relationships across the philanthropic, corporate, and community landscape while supporting the organizations growing portfolio of programs and institutional initiatives.

Working closely with the Executive Director, senior leadership team, program supervisors, and external donor relations consultants, the Development Coordinator translates CAIROs mission, impact, and storytelling into meaningful partnerships and sustainable funding opportunities. The role combines donor cultivation, event leadership, communications coordination, and strategic community engagement to expand CAIROs visibility and strengthen long-term investment in the organizations work.


Position Information:

This is full-time non-exempt position

Monday - Friday

9 am 5 pm
(Actual schedule will vary based on workload, additional hours will be required as needed)

Salary: $25.77 - $27.98

Core Responsibilities


Partnership Development, Donor Engagement & Community Relations

  • Cultivate and steward relationships with individual donors, corporate partners, foundations, and community stakeholders.
  • Identify and develop new partnership opportunities that expand CAIROs programs and community impact.
  • Collaborate with program supervisors to strengthen program-based partnerships and external collaborations.
  • Represent CAIRO at community meetings, networking events, and public engagements to elevate organizational visibility.
  • Support growth of individual giving, corporate sponsorships, and philanthropic engagement opportunities.
  • Coordinate regular communication between donors, Board members, and organizational leadership.
  • Maintain accurate donor and partnership records within CAIROs CRM system.
  • Ensure timely donor stewardship, acknowledgements, and relationship follow-up.


Fundraising Initiatives, Events & Development Operations

  • Lead planning and execution of CAIROs Annual Gala, including sponsorship outreach, logistics, and donor engagement.
  • Play a significant leadership role in organizing additional agency-wide events and community celebrations.
  • Manage fundraising timelines and coordinate daily logistics for development initiatives.
  • Assist with development budgeting, tracking fundraising performance, and preparing progress reports.
  • Coordinate newsletters, storytelling content, and visibility campaigns highlighting organizational impact.
  • Maintain online donation platforms and ensure donor-facing systems are functional and user-friendly.
  • Support branding, communications, and outreach initiatives aligned with CAIROs strategic goals.


Language Requirements:

  • Required: Fluency in speaking/reading/writing English proficiently
  • Preferred: bilingual, ability to speak/read/write: Somali, Arabic, Swahili, Farsi, Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Cantonese, American Sign Language.


Abilities, Skills & Experiences

  • Experience in fundraising, partnership development, nonprofit advancement, communications, or event coordination.
  • Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with CRM systems, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace.
  • Familiarity with digital communications or social media platforms are preferred.
