What is a performance based compensation?

A Performance Based Compensation job involves structuring employee pay based on their performance, productivity, or achieving specific goals. Instead of receiving a fixed salary, employees earn bonuses, commissions, or incentives tied to their results. This model is common in sales, finance, and executive roles, where compensation aligns with company success. Employers use this approach to motivate employees, enhance productivity, and drive business growth. Effective performance metrics and fair evaluation criteria are essential for a successful compensation system.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in performance based compensation?

To thrive in a Performance Based Compensation role, you need strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of compensation strategies, and experience with HR or finance-related fields, often supported by a relevant bachelor’s degree. Proficiency with compensation management software, Excel, and HRIS platforms, as well as certifications such as CCP (Certified Compensation Professional), are highly beneficial. Exceptional attention to detail, effective communication, and problem-solving abilities make you stand out in this position. These skills are important for accurately designing and administering incentive programs that motivate employees and align with organizational goals.

What are typical challenges faced by professionals in performance based compensation?

Professionals in Performance Based Compensation roles often encounter the challenge of balancing competitive pay structures with budget constraints while ensuring fairness across diverse job functions. They must analyze large sets of performance and compensation data to make informed recommendations and frequently collaborate with HR, finance, and leadership teams to gain alignment. Navigating regulatory requirements and staying compliant with labor laws can add additional complexity to the position. Successfully overcoming these challenges requires both a strategic mindset and the ability to manage sensitive information with discretion.

Job description

About the Role
Are you naturally good at sales?

Do you enjoy the challenge of earning someone's trust, answering objections, and closing the sale?
You may not have considered a career in automotive, but that doesn't mean you wouldn't be great at it.
At Apex Vehicle Services, we can teach you automotive. We're looking for someone with the communication skills, competitive drive, and natural sales ability that are much harder to teach.
Your job is not to know everything about cars on day one. Your job is to become exceptional at taking care of customers, communicating value, and earning their business. We'll give you the technical support, training, and tools to get there.
Responsibilities
• Guide customers through the service process from initial contact through vehicle pickup
• Listen, ask the right questions, and accurately document customer concerns
• Present repair and maintenance recommendations clearly and confidently
• Sell value and solutions, not discounts
• Professionally work through questions, concerns, and objections
• Follow up on estimates and previously declined services
• Maintain consistent communication with customers throughout the repair process
• Coordinate with technicians and management to keep jobs moving efficiently
• Maintain accurate repair orders, estimates, approvals, invoices, and payments
• Take ownership of your customers, your performance, and your results
What We're Looking For
• Strong communication and natural sales ability
• Comfortable asking for the sale and working through objections
• Competitive, self motivated, and results driven
• Strong sense of ownership and accountability
• Organized and able to manage multiple customers and priorities
• Coachable and willing to learn
• Team oriented with a desire to contribute to shared success
• Automotive or Service Advisor experience is a plus, but not required
• Valid driver's license
If you can sell, communicate, and learn, we can teach you automotive.

What You Can Expect From Apex
We believe good people perform their best when they have the tools, support, and opportunity to succeed.
You'll have an experienced technical and management team behind you, clear expectations, ongoing training, and real value to offer your customers.
At Apex, we don't believe the answer to every objection is a discount. We believe in understanding what matters to the customer, communicating the value of the solution, and earning their business.
And when you tell a customer that Apex stands behind its work, you have something real to back it up.

The better you become at building relationships, communicating value, and earning business, the greater your opportunity.
Compensation & Benefits
$70,000 to $120,000 earning potential

• Performance based compensation
• Monday through Friday schedule
• 401(k)
• Health insurance
• Life insurance
• Paid time off
• Employee discounts
• Professional development and ongoing training
• Retirement plan

You don't need years of automotive experience to get our attention.
If you're a salesperson who enjoys the challenge of earning someone's business, doesn't back away when a customer has an objection, and wants your performance to have a direct impact on your income, we want to hear from you.
If you already have the drive, confidence, and ability to sell, we'll give you the opportunity to turn those skills into a career.
