These nurses provide patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures, filling in for staff shortages or covering busy periods. The 'per diem' status offers flexibility in scheduling but may not include benefits like health insurance or paid time off. They must be licensed RNs with experience in perioperative or ambulatory surgery settings, and be prepared to adapt quickly to different teams and procedures.

Per Diem Surgery Center RNs often face challenges such as adapting quickly to different teams, staying up-to-date with changing protocols, and managing variable shift schedules. To succeed, it's important to remain flexible, communicate effectively with permanent staff, and proactively review center-specific procedures before each shift. Building strong relationships with colleagues and maintaining a solid foundation in surgical nursing best practices can help ensure seamless patient care, even in unfamiliar environments.
