Job Description

The Rescue Standby Technician supports a rescue team operation during high-risk construction activities by providing confined space, elevated work, rope/high-angle, and trench rescue services.  As part of the rescue team, the technician utilizes OSHA approved equipment and adheres to all applicable OSHA regulations, client policies, and site-specific procedures.  The technician will maintain emergency response readiness through regular equipment inspection, identifying, and communicating site hazards and maintaining current First Aid, CPR and AED certification for first responders.  This position is intended to supplement, not replace, the responsibilities of the client’s plant protection personnel or local 911 emergency responders.

Responsibilities 

  • Provide elevated, confined space, rope/high-angle and trench rescue services
  • Monitor work activities for hazards and unsafe conditions
  • Communicate safety concerns promptly to the rescue team lead, site safety personnel, supervisors, or designated client representative
  • Support site orientations, pre-shift briefings, toolbox talks, and safety meetings as assigned
  • Perform basic First Aid, CPR and AED, as needed until clients' first responders arrive
  • Ensure required personal protective equipment (PPE) is inspected and utilized for all daily tasks per site specifications
  • Ensure equipment is readily available and in good working condition   
  • Ensure all safety procedures, practices, and regulations are followed before, during, and after the process to foster a positive safety culture by having a safety-first mindset and approach during execution of activities
  • Based on the nature of the essential functions associated with this role, GreenWood has designated this as a “safety-sensitive” position
  • Support the site safety team with orientations, toolbox talk and other safety meetings
  • Clean and maintain equipment and work area
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned 
  • High School Diploma or GED 

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 5 years of first responder and confined space rescue experience
  • Minimum 3 years in Emergency Services (Police, Fire, EMS, etc.)
  • Current certifications in First Aid, CPR and AED for First Responders (or ability to obtain)
  • Confined space certification, fall protection training, aerial lift certification, and hazmat certification
  • Current Firefighter 1 and Firefighter 2 certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Current respiratory clearance and pulmonary function test (or ability to obtain)
  • Certified OSHA 10-hour Construction Safety and Health
  • Effective communication and interpersonal Skills
  • Experience performing ongoing monitoring of job conditions and equipment resources
  • Ability to recognize signs of symptoms & consequences of the exposure
  • Ability to apply critical reasoning skills during stressful situations
  • Ability to take ownership and initiative in role requirements
  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic, fosters a collaborative team environment, and recognizes the importance of dependable attendance
  • Experience demonstrating successful support of a positive safety culture
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation(s)
