Job Summary:
The Research RN will support the portfolio of studies managed by the Emergency Department (ED) Research Coordinator Program in the BerbeeWalsh Department of Emergency Medicine. Duties may include pre-implementation work with a goal of operationalizing clinical research protocols as well as supporting the implementation of research activities in the University Hospital ED. This Research RN will support eligibility review for potential participants, will collect biological samples for research purposes (blood, urine, saliva), and will support chart review as required. The position requires oversight and supervision of Research RNs.
  • This position is part-time, 50%
  • This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
  • This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Collects, verifies, and enters data into database and analyzes clinical information data
  • May provide expertise, training, and guidance to the community, peers, and/or students
  • Supervises the day-to-day activities of research work unit
  • Secures and schedules logistics for clinical research projects according to the research plan
  • Assists in the recruitment and screening of subjects for clinical studies by conducting physical health assessments
  • Provides professional nursing care to patients according to established protocols
  • Provides appropriate treatment plan direction and information to study participants
  • Serves as main point of contact and liaison to project participants, investigators, research sponsors, and the research team delivering study information in accordance with established research project standards and protocols
  • Serves a primary point of contact for emergent study participant situations related to adverse effects or complications of the study

Effective July 1, 2024, the U.S. Department of Labor Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) requires that positions earning less than $43,888 annually be considered non-exempt under FLSA provisions for overtime. Based on these rules, if the person selected for this recruitment will earn less than the new salary threshold at July 1, 2024 ($43,888 annually), they will be an academic staff non-exempt employee, will be paid hourly and will receive overtime compensation for any hours worked over 40 in a workweek.
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years clinical experience in an Emergency Department setting
  • Minimum of 3 years experience implementing clinical research protocols in Emergency Department setting
  • Experience with sample collecting and processing (blood, saliva, urine)
  • Experience supervising clinical research staff
  • Registered Nurse (RN) License required by the start date of the position.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting workflow development/design to support successful implementation of clinical trials in healthcare environments
  • Experience with a variety of electronic data capture systems
  • Registered Nurse (RN), State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure.

Education:
Bachelor's Degree preferred
