Position Overview:
The Utilization Review/Discharge Planner (UR/DP) performs chart review to determine the appropriateness of care to ensure effective quality and cost-efficient outcomes, coordinates all aspects of patient care involving all members of the health care team to develop an integrated discharge plan. Uses effective interpersonal skills in managing the complexity of interactions involved with the position. Must be able to communicate in a timely manner to insurance case management providers to assure continued and discharge utilization management appeals to patient care needs.
Job Description:
EDUCATION
Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma.
  • HS Diploma or equivalent education/experience
  • Graduate of an accredited Psychiatric Technician Program/Vocational Nursing Program

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE
  • LVN-Licensed Vocational Nurse
  • OR PSYT-Psychiatric Technician

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AS TYPICALLY ACQUIRED IN:
  • Seasoned experience in psychiatric nursing, preferably in an inpatient setting is required.
  • Experience working with all age populations is required.
  • Demonstrates experience utilizing effective interpersonal communications, organizational and priority setting skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to plan, organize and support implementation of a patient focused program in a healthcare setting.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
  • The ability to work independently with a minimum of direction.
  • Critical thinking skills necessary to provide utilization review/discharge planning services appropriate to patients with complex medical, emotional and social needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and time management skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
