What is a Per Diem Remote Reviewer?

A Per Diem Remote Reviewer is a professional who evaluates documents, cases, or records from a remote location on an as-needed (per diem) basis. This role is common in industries like healthcare, insurance, and education, where reviewers assess information for quality, compliance, or accuracy. Per diem means they are paid for each day or assignment worked rather than being salaried employees. Remote reviewers benefit from flexible schedules and can often work from anywhere with internet access.

To thrive as a Per Diem Remote Reviewer, you generally need a relevant clinical or coding background, experience in medical record review, and appropriate licensure or certification (such as RN, CPC, or RHIA). Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems, medical coding software, and secure data platforms is typically required. Attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and effective written communication help reviewers excel in evaluating complex documentation remotely. These competencies ensure accurate, compliant reviews that uphold quality standards and support organizational efficiency.

How does the flexibility of a Per Diem Remote Reviewer position impact daily workflow and communication with the team?

Per Diem Remote Reviewer roles offer significant flexibility, allowing you to set your own hours and workload based on the needs of the organization and your availability. However, this flexibility also requires strong self-motivation and time management skills, as you may need to coordinate with team members in different time zones or adjust to variable review volumes. Communication is typically handled via email, chat platforms, or virtual meetings, so being proactive about updates and questions is essential to ensure smooth collaboration and timely completion of assignments.
