Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough pre-operative assessments on paediatric patients, reviewing medical history, allergies, current medications, and anaesthesia consent.
  • Establish IV access, administer pre-operative medications, and prepare patients physically and emotionally for surgery in a child-friendly manner.
  • Verify surgical site, confirm informed consent, and complete pre-operative checklists in compliance with facility and Joint Commission standards.
  • Communicate patient status and outstanding concerns clearly to the OR and anaesthesia teams to facilitate a safe, smooth operative experience.

Requirements

  • Active, unencumbered MO RN licence.
  • Minimum 1 year recent pre-operative or peri-operative paediatric nursing experience required.
  • Current BLS/CPR and PALS required.
  • Familiarity with surgical consent processes, pre-op checklists, and paediatric patient preparation.
