Per diem employees typically have more flexibility in choosing their shifts but may not receive the same benefits as full-time staff. What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a per diem night shift worker?

To thrive as a Per Diem Night Shift Nurse, you need a solid nursing education, active RN licensure, and experience in acute care settings. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), medication administration systems, and hospital protocols is essential. Strong adaptability, self-motivation, and effective communication skills help you excel in unpredictable and independently managed night shifts. These competencies ensure that patient care remains safe and consistent during off-hours when resources and supervision may be limited.
