These nurses fill in shifts when hospitals or clinics experience staff shortages or need extra help, providing flexibility for both the nurse and the employer. Per diem positions are ideal for new grads looking to gain experience in different departments or settings while maintaining a flexible work-life balance. However, benefits and guaranteed hours may be limited compared to full-time positions.
