Job description

Lead Material Handler

Trinity Industries, Inc. is hiring a Lead Material Handler at our Fort Worth, TX plant. Our products are an integral part of the supply chain that helps fuel our lives and our economy. Over the last 85 years, Trinity Industries has grown to over 6,000 employees strong with the common purpose of Delivering Goods, For the Good of All. The Lead Material Handler position is a great opportunity for a resilient, team-minded individual who doesn't stray away from a challenge. In this role, the Lead Material Handler supports production and warehouse operations by coordinating, directing, and performing the movement, staging, storage, and tracking of materials throughout Plant 4025. This role provides hands-on support while also assigning daily tasks, training team members, and ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and inventory control standards. The Lead ensures materials are delivered to production on time, storage areas are organized, and equipment is operated safely and efficiently.

What you'll do:

  • Assigns work to Material Handlers and monitors progress to meet production and shipping schedules.
  • Provides on-the-job training, coaching, and support for lower-level Material Handlers.
  • Leads by example in safety, housekeeping, and work quality.
  • Serves as the primary floor contact for issues related to material flow, inventory discrepancies, and equipment needs.
  • Capable of performing all functions of Material Handler levels 1–3 when needed, including:
    • Pulling, staging, and delivering materials to production.
    • Transporting materials using appropriate mobile equipment.
    • Maintaining organized storage areas inside and outside the facility.
  • Monitors material availability, identifies shortages, and escalates when needed.
  • Ensures accurate material identification, labeling, and documentation.
  • Helps organize and optimize production floor and warehouse storage layouts.
  • Operates and leads others to the safe use of various mobile equipment, which may include:
    • Lift trucks (all capacities used at the facility)
    • High-capacity forklifts
    • Yard equipment
    • Cranes/hoists
    • Action arms, bobcats, excavators (as applicable)
  • Ensure equipment inspections are performed, and unsafe equipment is reported or removed from service.
  • Trains team members on proper equipment operation where certified.
  • Leads team compliance with all safety rules, PPE requirements, and facility procedures.
  • Ensures material movement complies with load capacity and equipment safety standards.
  • Participates in safety initiatives, hazard identification, and corrective action efforts.

Qualifications:

  • 4-6 years of related experience
  • Extensive knowledge of product line and storage requirements
  • Experience in warehousing activities requiring a high level of precision and productivity
  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate mobile material-handling equipment used at Plant 4025.
  • Ability to read material lists, pick sheets, basic engineering drawings, and identifiers.
  • Strong organization, communication, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to train and direct others in daily tasks.
  • Ability to work in indoor/outdoor production and yard environments (temperature, noise, dust).
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekend work, or schedule adjustments to meet plant demand.
