Role Purpose
The individual in this role will support glass-focused research and development through hands-on experimental work, materials characterization, data analysis, and technical documentation. The role emphasizes a strong safety mindset, reliable execution, sound laboratory practices, and clear communication of results in a fast-paced team environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare, label, handle, and track samples through laboratory and characterization workflows.
  • Execute experiments and measurements using standard laboratory and characterization methods.
  • Perform characterization and inspection of glass and related material samples.
  • Organize, analyze, and summarize experimental data using digital tools.
  • Document results in presentations, reports, and shared technical records.
  • Coordinate sample movement, requests, and follow-up across teams.
  • Help improve methods, data workflows, and lab efficiency through observation and problem solving.
  • Maintain organized and clean laboratory work areas.
  • Work closely with scientists, engineers, and technicians to design and execute project work.

Experiences/Education - Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related science or engineering discipline with 3+ years of relevant work experience or glass research experience.
  • Master's degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related science or engineering discipline may be considered in lieu of prior work experience.
  • Strong safety mindset: follows safe work practices and speaks up when unsafe conditions or behaviors are observed.
  • Attention to detail in laboratory work, sample handling, and technical documentation.
  • Basic knowledge of materials science and characterization methods.
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory work and technical measurements.
  • Willingness and demonstrated aptitude to learn new characterization methods, tools, and workflows.
  • Proficiency in collecting, organizing, and interpreting experimental data using spreadsheets and Microsoft Office or similar digital tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams while maintaining organization, follow-through, and good time management.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including summarizing data in technical presentations or written reports outside of a classroom setting.
  • Collaborate effectively on team-based technical assignments with members from different work groups and geographic locations.

Experiences/Education - Desired
  • Theoretical and experimental background in Glass Science, including surfaces and interfaces.
  • Experience with materials-related characterization, including microscopy and surface topography.
  • Track record of improving measurements, including hardware and workflow.
  • Familiarity with AI and other digital tools that improve technical productivity and workflow efficiency.
  • Experience with scripting or coding tools such as MATLAB or Python.

The range for this position is $67,204.00 - $92,406.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
