Job Summary:
The Environmental Geologist is responsible for conducting and managing environmental site investigations, remediation projects, and regulatory compliance activities. This role applies geological principles to evaluate soil, groundwater, and surface water conditions; assess environmental risk; and support cleanup and sustainability efforts. The position works independently on routine assignments and collaborates with senior staff on complex projects.
Responsibilities:
  • Manage multiple clients, projects, contracts, and task orders at the same time.
  • Develop scopes of service and prepare budgets and proposals.
  • Prepare work plans, cost estimates, and technical reports.
  • Complete Phase I, II, & III Environmental Site Assessments.
  • Manage technical field and analysis and design tasks.
  • Review, evaluate, and interpret environmental data and prepare summary reports.
  • Interact and communicate with clients, vendors, and staff at all levels in a professional manner.
  • Support business development and marketing activities, including preparation of cost proposals and presentations to existing and prospective clients.
  • Follow Shannon & Wilson's Quality Assurance policy.
  • Follow and promote Shannon & Wilson's Health & Safety and Loss Prevention policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Hydrology, Civil or Environmental Engineering, or related field; master's degree preferred.
  • 7 to 14 years of environmental geology experience.
  • Professional Geologist (PG) License in the state office is located in, or the ability to acquire a license within 12 months of employment.
  • Hands on experience with managing environmental projects, and conducting environmental fieldwork and site investigations.
  • Experience on federal projects (HTRW, TERC, AFCEE, etc.)
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations (e.g., CERCLA, RCRA, state cleanup programs).
  • Environmental sampling techniques (soil, groundwater, vapor).
  • Subsurface interpretation and hydrogeologic concepts.
  • Technical report writing and data analysis.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; GIS or environmental data software a plus.
  • Excellent writing, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Personable, flexible, and professional.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • The willingness and ability to travel to support the needs of other Shannon & Wilson offices.
  • A valid driver license and insurable driving record.
  • Critical thinking and analysis.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying 30+ pounds.
  • Working in all weather conditions, on uneven terrain.
  • The ability to travel (drive or fly) to field sites per project needs and job sites locally and out of state.

Level Placement:
Typically, depending on an applicant's education, experience, other qualifications they possess, if they are a fit for the company and local office culture, and the current business needs, a Mid-Level Environmental Geologist typically would be placed at Shannon & Wilson's Senior Professional I, II, or III level.
Compensation:
Senior Professional I: $95,000 - $120,000
Senior Professional II: $115,000 - $130,000
Senior Professional III: $120,000 - $140,000
