Familiarity with specialized engineering software (such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks), project management tools, and safety protocols is typically required. A Per Diem Engineer is a professional who works on a temporary, as-needed basis, typically without a full-time commitment. These engineers are often hired for specific projects, emergency staffing needs, or short-term assignments. They are usually compensated with a daily rate (per diem) rather than a traditional salary. This role is common in industries such as construction, aerospace, and manufacturing, where project demands fluctuate.

What are the typical work schedules and expectations for a per diem engineer?

Per Diem Engineers are usually employed on an as-needed basis, which means shifts or assignments can vary depending on project demands and company requirements. You may be called in to fill gaps, cover peak workloads, or provide specialized expertise for short-term projects, sometimes with little advance notice. This flexible arrangement often provides the opportunity to gain experience across different projects and teams, but you should be comfortable adapting quickly to new environments and requirements. Many Per Diem Engineers enjoy the work-life balance and diverse exposure the role offers, though it may not guarantee a set number of hours each week.
