Job description

Title: Clinical Lab Scientist Per Diem

Location: Fountain Valley

Department: Clinical Lab - NonPatient

Status: Per Diem

Shift: Nights 

Pay Range*: $60.00/hr.

**Every other weekend (Friday and Saturday) rotations. CLS generalist to rotate in all areas of the laboratory (no Blood Bank).

Position Summary

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist will (CLS) will perform laboratory duties as scheduled; produce accurate and timely laboratory results in accordance with Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center Laboratory Services department standards and procedures. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist must be able to assess and interpret data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's age specific needs and provide the care needed for that patient population.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

1. Perform pre-analysis, analysis and post-analysis of laboratory tests according to the core lab department's protocols and procedures.

2. Follow laboratory protocol to ensure proper identification of patients and specimens.

3. Evaluate tests results, test processes, quality control and assurance requirements where applicable.

4. Ability to meet department scheduling and attendance requirements.

5. Require effective communication, verbally, in writing and through other means.

6. Consistently apply infection control policies and procedures.

7. Attend and actively participate in department specific education, training, in-services, process improvement initiatives and staff meetings.

8. Participates in performance improvement projects in the laboratory.

9. Ensures equipment and safety devices are used as intended and designed.

10. Ensures compliance at all times with hospital and laboratory policies and procedures.

11. Perform data management and documentation activities.

12. Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned.

16. Ability to prioritize and multitask

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Qualifications/Work Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in general laboratory

  • Knowledge of current information system preferred.

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree in a science discipline preferred.

  • Currently licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist by the state of California.
