What is a per diem asynchronous teacher?

A Per Diem Asynchronous Teacher is an educator who works on a flexible, as-needed basis to facilitate online courses where students and instructors do not interact in real time. Instead, teaching, assignments, and feedback occur through digital platforms and are completed according to flexible schedules. These teachers may be responsible for grading, responding to student questions, and updating course materials, without set daily hours. Their role is ideal for those seeking flexible employment opportunities and who are comfortable with self-paced, online education environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a per diem asynchronous teacher?

To thrive as a Per Diem Asynchronous Teacher, you need subject matter expertise, instructional design knowledge, and often a teaching credential or relevant degree. Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) like Canvas or Blackboard and digital content creation tools is typically required. Strong skills in communication, time management, and self-motivation help you engage students and manage coursework remotely. These abilities are essential to deliver effective, flexible instruction and support student success in a self-paced online environment.

How does a per diem asynchronous teaching role typically collaborate with full-time faculty and support staff?

Per Diem Asynchronous Teachers often work closely with full-time faculty to ensure course content and assessments align with departmental standards.
