Job description

Performs professional site planning and planning and zoning work. Reviews various types of zoning-related proposals and applications for land development permits such as site plans, re-zonings, planned developments, conditional/requested uses, variances, special permits, subdivisions, and plats. Assignments may also include the review of master sign plans, landscape plans, vegetation plans, building permits, and the preparation and review of land development regulations, utilizing data gathering techniques and mapmaking. Work is performed under the general supervision of an administrative superior and reviewed through meetings, reports, and results obtained.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires qualified applicants to possess one of the following:
• A Master's Degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban or Regional Planning, or a closely related field; minimum of one (1) year of experience with a land use planning, zoning, or regulatory agency,
OR
• A Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban or Regional Planning, Geography, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Physical or Natural Sciences, Environmental Studies, Archaeology, Business/Public Administration, or a closely related field; minimum of two (2) years of experience with a land use planning, zoning, or regulatory agency,
OR
• An unrelated Bachelor's Degree; minimum of three (3) years of experience with a land use planning, zoning, or regulatory agency,
OR
• An Associate's Degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban or Regional Planning, Geography, GIS, Physical or Natural Sciences, Environmental Studies, Archaeology, Business/Public Administration, or a closely related field; minimum of four (4) years of experience with a land use planning, zoning, or regulatory agency,
OR
• An unrelated Associate's Degree; minimum of five (5) years of experience with a land use planning, zoning, or regulatory agency,
OR
• Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of six (6) years in a paraprofessional/technical position reviewing and/or processing planning, zoning, or building applications and associated tasks .
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred qualifications include:
• Experience using the United Land Development Code (ULDC) and applying/enforcing the Code through the review of zoning applications,
• Experience in site planning and applying design principles,
• Experience with the electronic Planning, Zoning and Building (ePZB) database, and
• Experience with GIS.
