Position Description
The Construction Laborer (union) supports Penhall Company's field operations in concrete cutting, coring, breaking, and demolition. The ideal candidate is reliable, safety-minded, and able to work in physically demanding environments. Training and advancement opportunities are available for qualified candidates. This position is covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the Laborers Local 185 union. Will be required to join the union and maintain membership in good standing. Current Local 185 members welcome to apply. Starting pay rate is union scale.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support daily field operations including concrete cutting, coring, breaking, and related demolition activities.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and other construction equipment in a safe and effective manner.
  • Assist foremen, operators, and other crew members as directed on job sites.
  • Work with crews or independently to complete assigned tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Accurately read and interpret job tickets, safety plans, and complete daily job safety pre-task plans.
  • Communicate clearly and consistently with dispatch and supervisors regarding job progress and needs.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and care for tools and equipment.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety and OSHA standards.

Position Requirements
Qualifications: Need to Have and Nice to Have:
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Valid and unrestricted driver's license with clean driving record.
  • Previous construction or demolition experience preferred.
  • Experience with jackhammers, demolition tools, and light power equipment required.
  • Safety-oriented mindset with strong situational awareness.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team or independently.
  • Strong verbal communication and understanding of job site documentation.
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co workers, supervisors and the general public at all times.
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities and sometimes conflicting deadlines.
  • Reliable and punctual attendance.
  • Must be able to stand, bend, kneel, and lift heavy materials for extended periods.
  • Able to perform work with exposures to weather, noise, dust, fumes, etc.
  • Must be physically able and willing to climb ladders and scaffolds and work at varying heights above ground.
  • Must be able and willing to work nights and weekends when needed, and to travel for out of town work and training.
  • Selected candidates for all positions must submit to and successfully pass post offer pre-employment drug/alcohol screen, background check and motor vehicle records check.
