Job description

We are looking for a Marketing Assistant to join our innovative Riverhead Books team. Founded in 1994, Riverhead Books is a boutique literary imprint that publishes urgent, unheard voices worldwide, including award-winning literary fiction and bestselling nonfiction writers. Riverhead's books and authors have won or been finalists for the Nobel Prize, Pulitzer Prize, Booker Prize, National Book Awards, National Book Critic Circle Awards, MacArthur Genius Awards, Hurston Wright Legacy Awards, Dayton Literary Peace Prizes, and numerous other distinctions. Some of Riverhead's recent bestsellers and critically acclaimed releases include Brawler by Lauren Groff, Audition by Katie Kitamura, All Fours by Miranda July, Trust by Hernan Diaz, The God of the Woods by Liz Moore, The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store by James McBride and All the Way to the River by Elizabeth Gilbert.
This position will report to the Marketing Director and work in close partnership with the full marketing team on all aspects of our title and brand campaigns. Riverhead Marketing operates collaboratively within an agile, fast-paced environment, and this role offers the opportunity to immerse yourself in every facet of the department's work. You will consult directly with authors and agents, coordinate closely with colleagues across Editorial, Sales, Art, and Publicity, and develop creative ways to connect our books with readers. Curiosity, a willingness to experiment, and an eagerness to explore new ideas are a big plus.
The ideal candidate possesses the organizational ability, time management skills and attention to detail to skillfully perform regular administrative duties, while also demonstrating the ability to take initiative and exercise independent and creative thinking where needed.
This hybrid role includes responsibilities that require in-office participation four (4) days a week, so the ability to commute to our 1745 Broadway location is essential.
Specific responsibilities include:
  • Assist the Marketing Director with general administrative support, including incoming requests from the Sales, Editorial, Managing Editorial, and Art departments.
  • Assist the full marketing team on both brand and title-specific marketing and promotional campaigns.
  • Work with the team to develop creative programming for our book community (including our newsletters, our newspaper The Eddy, brand partnerships, and more).
  • Update, organize and maintain internal marketing database systems.
  • Conduct consumer research and contribute to Riverhead's social media platforms, which include Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and Goodreads.
  • Coordinate category specific promotions and sweepstakes.
  • Coordinate materials in preparation for sales meetings and other internal activations.
  • Manage our reader request program and execute creative influencer mailings from the office and through the warehouse.
  • Organize incoming marketing materials, galleys and finished copies that arrive in the office.

The Penguin Random House national headquarters is located in New York City. This is a hybrid position, requiring four (4) days per week at our 1745 Broadway location. The salary for this position is $51,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
