A Peer Mentor is a leader who helps ease the transitions to college for new students by creating a community in which new students feel a sense of belonging and support. Peer Mentors are embedded into First Year Experience FYEX 1110, Learning Community classes, and courses they have previously taken. They provide mentoring, tutoring, and study sessions services, connect students to campus resources, conduct students surveys, and manage student information. Outside of scheduled classes, Peer Mentors organize and lead social academic events.
Physical Description:
Help first-year students and peers' transition and succeed at college.ย
Help students connect to campus resources.
Serve as a positive mentor and role model, academically and behaviorally.
Develop, proved, and maintain effective working relationships, assistance, and support.
Establish regular communication with students through email, text, social media, etc.
Regularly attend assigned weekly classes, participate in and lead class activities, and take notes.
Meet and collaborate with faculty.
Attend department staff meetings and trainings.
Hold office hours for tutoring and mentoring services.
Organize and facilitate study groups.
Plan and facilitate events and activities with students outside of class.
Create and distribute marketing media.
Minimum Qualifications:
Is classified as a college sophomore, junior or senior
Is in good academic and disciplinary standing.
Has a 3.0 GPA or higher.
Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credit hours.

Has a genuine willingness or desire to help their peers succeed.
Exhibits a high level of motivation, initiative, and personal responsibility.
Exhibits interpersonal skills. communication skills.
Can maintain effective working relationships.

Can use a campus Microsoft 360 suite, campus portal, and campus apps.
