Job description

Job Summary:
The Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (L&D RN) provides specialized nursing care to women during labor, delivery, and antepartum periods. This role involves managing high-risk pregnancies, including pre-eclampsia, diabetes, and multiple gestations, as well as supporting vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) and trial of labor after cesarean (TOLAC). The nurse actively manages laboring patients, performs induction and augmentation of labor, and handles maternal emergencies. Strong clinical skills and collaboration with the healthcare team are essential to ensure safe and effective patient care in a short-term acute care, Level II Trauma Center environment.
Responsibilities:
Required Skills & Certifications:
  • Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
  • Minimum of 2 years nursing experience, preferably in labor and delivery or acute care settings.
  • Clinical expertise in acute care high-risk labor and delivery management.
  • Proficiency with induction, augmentation, and management of labor.
  • Strong skills in managing maternal emergencies.
  • Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
  • Experience using Epic electronic medical record system.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
  • Experience with VBAC/TOLAC patient management.
  • Prior experience in a Level II Trauma Center or similar acute care facility.
  • Additional certifications related to obstetric nursing or maternal-fetal medicine.
Special Considerations:
  • Floating between units is required.
  • Some weekend shifts are required.
  • Orientation includes reduced non-billable orientation hours.
  • Work environment includes a short-term acute care hospital with Level II Trauma and Pediatric Trauma Center designations.
Scheduling:
  • 48 approved working hours.
  • Patient ratios maintained at Labor 1:2 and Antepartum 1:3.
  • Block schedules and on-call duties are not required.
