Build and service the door systems that keep businesses moving

Vortex Doors is the nation’s go-to partner for commercial and industrial door service. We’re adding a Commercial Sectional Door & Dock Field Technician with 4+ years of hands-on experience in sectional doors and dock equipment.

A day in the life
  • Roll out in a company vehicle to customer sites, review the work order, and plan a safe, efficient approach.
  • Install and commission commercial sectional doors, dock levelers, and related hardware using the right tools and methods.
  • Weld new dock levelers during installation to spec.
  • Troubleshoot and repair door systems: springs, hinges, locks, operators, and electrical components.
  • Tackle occasional pedestrian door repairs—training provided if you’re new to this segment.
  • Verify that every install and repair complies with safety and building codes.
  • Document work performed, parts used, measurements, and recommendations with accurate service reports.
  • Diagnose issues quickly, communicate cost-effective options, and deliver quality checks before leaving the site.

What you bring
  • 2–4+ years in commercial door service; 4+ years in sectional doors and dock systems strongly preferred.
  • Excellent mechanical and technical aptitude; proficient with hand and power tools.
  • Precision with measurements, including fractions and tape measure reading.
  • Knowledge of door and dock brands, components, and safety regulations.
  • Strong problem-solving, customer communication, and persuasion skills.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and detail-focused.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; Welding certification is a plus.
Physical and schedule requirements
  • Lift and move 50+ lbs regularly.
  • Frequent bending/kneeling; climb ladders up to 20’ and work safely at height.
  • Operate power tools confidently.
  • Full-time within our business hours of 7:00 AM–5:30 PM, Monday–Friday, with some overtime and on-call.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a company vehicle.
