Starting salary is dependent on applicant qualifications and experience. Description The Seasonal Staff in the Parks and Recreation Department is responsible for ensuring the maintenance and readiness of the city's parks for public use. This role encompasses a wide range of duties, including landscape maintenance, equipment upkeep, splash pad operation, special event support, and adherence to safety and environmental standards.
Hours of Work: Hours will vary for business needs. Must be available weekdays, nights, weekends, holidays, and events. 750 Hours available.
Examples of Duties Maintain the city's parks and landscapes by mowing grass, weed eating, tree trimming, and picking up trash and debris. Clean and maintain park facilities and equipment, including restrooms and ancillary areas. Inspect and ensure the proper functioning of irrigation systems at Sportsplex, City Parks, and the Municipal Building.
Operate various equipment for trail and turf maintenance, including tree trimming equipment, pole saws, chain saws, and more. Report unresolved building, water, electrical, and ground repairs to city departments. Notify the police department or Animal Control Officer of rule violations by park visitors.
Occasionally oversee and train other PARD staff and community service workers. Maintain a professional demeanor when interacting with public officials, city staff, and the general public. Perform mechanical repairs on park and landscaping equipment.
Help to repair play-scape equipment. Execute light carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and painting projects and repairs. Operate boom operating lift for holiday decorating and signage installation and removal.
Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours, weekend, and holiday coverage. Required to work during special events and holidays, which may include late nights, weekends, and inclement weather. May be assigned traffic and pedestrian control responsibilities.
Perform other related job duties as assigned. Typical Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent; any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Special Qualifications: Valid and Current State of Texas Class "C" driver's license required Supplemental Information Knowledge of general construction tools and equipment, as well as safe work practices.
Ability to perform unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in construction and maintenance activities, including heavy manual labor. Capacity to operate various construction and maintenance equipment. Strong ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and the public.
Willingness to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed for event coverage. Effective organizational and communication skills. Knowledge of CPR.
