POSITION SUMMARY
The Mechanical Engineer will design, develop, and test sub-systems related to firetrucks. Mechanical engineering is responsible for turning ideas for products into functional prototypes and eventual production. The position will support advanced engineering designs, production designs, and issue evaluation and resolution using engineering tools with efficient and affordable processes. The engineer will achieve these goals by working cross functionally with other sub-system engineers, purchasing, production, service, and our sales team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
All employees are required to support Rosenbauer's Mission, Vision, and Values. The following are the essential duties of this position and do not include marginal functions that are incidental to the performance of fundamental job duties. The scope and duties of a given position may change or be temporarily altered based on the business needs of Rosenbauer.
  1. Develops, maintains, and ensures conformance to corporate, customer, and regulatory sub-system specifications and performance requirements of existing products.
  2. Initiates and implements integrated hardware and software solutions to meet your respective sub-system performance that improve value by increasing quality and performance or by reducing costs.
  3. Develops and monitors simulation, lab and field validation and test programs to assure performance. Gathers and analyzes data to monitor product and component performance.
  4. Participates on cross-functional teams to implement product and process improvements.
  5. Understand and apply vehicle regulatory requirements and standards, such as FMVSS, SAE, NFPA, etc., to ensure our product designs are compliant. May maintain regulatory agency approvals.
  6. Create and manage detail drawings and Bill of Materials.
  7. Acts as a technical resource to other departments including Manufacturing, Purchasing, Service, and Sales & Marketing to address and resolve inquiries and problems.
  8. Maintains contact with suppliers, with Purchasing, to evaluate new products as well as support and ensure parts received meet quality standards.
  9. Analyze and problem-solve design, production, and field issues to successful resolution.
  10. Develops and implements corrective action in accordance with QMS procedures.
  11. Review Quality Audit records and analyze customer returns to assess product conformance to specifications.
  12. Prioritizes and manages multiple assignments and objectives as well as handling unscheduled tasks.
  13. Prepares and presents project status reports.
  14. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required by management to meet the needs of the company.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA's): The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
(K) nowledge, Education, and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering preferred.
  • 3-5 years of related mechanical engineering experience required.
  • Strong Bill of Material (BOM) experience required.
  • Experience in heavy truck and/or automotive systems preferred.
  • Project Management experience preferred.
  • Product data management utilizing CAD and PDM systems preferred.
  • Creo Parametric and Windchill PDM experience preferred.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes for efficient assembly and serviceability preferred.
  • Knowledge of firefighting processes and equipment preferred.
