What is a PDE?

PDE stands for Partial Differential Equations, which are mathematical equations involving functions and their partial derivatives. A PDE specialist typically researches, analyzes, and solves these equations to model various phenomena in fields like physics, engineering, finance, and biology. Their work involves both theoretical analysis and computational methods to find solutions or approximate behavior of complex systems. PDE experts often contribute to scientific advancements, engineering designs, and simulation software development.

What are some common challenges faced by product development engineers when transitioning a product from prototype to mass production?

Product Development Engineers often encounter challenges when moving from prototype to mass production, such as ensuring the design is manufacturable at scale, maintaining quality and performance standards, and managing tight timelines. They must collaborate closely with manufacturing, quality assurance, and supply chain teams to resolve issues like material sourcing, process optimization, and cost control. Effective communication and problem-solving skills are crucial, as unexpected production hurdles can arise that require quick and innovative solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a product development engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Product Development Engineer, you need a strong background in engineering principles, product design, and problem-solving, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with CAD software, prototyping tools, and knowledge of manufacturing processes are commonly required, along with certifications like Six Sigma or PMP being advantageous. Creativity, effective communication, and teamwork are vital soft skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and driving innovation. These skills ensure the efficient creation of high-quality products that meet market needs and business objectives.

What is the difference between Pde vs Mechanical Engineer?

Job description

Job Family: Software

Req ID: 513302

Siemens EDA is a global technology leader in Electronic Design Automation software. Our software tools enable companies around the world to develop highly innovative electronic products faster and more cost-effectively. Our customers use our tools to push the boundaries of technology and physics to deliver better products in the increasingly complex world of chip, board, and system design.

Join the Calibreโ„ข Semi R&D Team at Siemens EDA

We are seeking a highly motivated R&D leader to develop simulation platform for semiconductor manufacturing solutions (including process and device simulations, DTCO), preferably with expertise in semiconductor domain knowledge, Technology Computer Aided Design (TCAD), high-performance scientific computing (numerical algorithms, linear/PDE solvers, computational geometry, distributed processing, GPU acceleration, etc).

About Us

The Calibreโ„ข family of tools is the industry leader in EDA/CAD solutions for semiconductor manufacturing, enabling simulations and diagnostics from the transistor to the package level. As the semiconductor industry continues its rapid growth, there is a critical demand for high-fidelity modeling and high-throughput numerical simulations to support the production of stable, high-volume chips at advanced technology nodes.

In this pivotal role, you will collaborate with industry leaders to develop groundbreaking tools that accelerate semiconductor manufacturing and device performance study at the most advanced nodes (logic 2/1.4/1.0/0.7nm and beyond, 3D NAND, COB/VPT/3D DRAM, and 3DIC). Our solutions will deliver significant performance gains over conventional approaches, essential for supporting high-volume manufacturing and the agile turnaround times our customers demand.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should possess the following education and experience:

PhD with 10+ (or MS with 15+) years of research/industry experience in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, etc.), with one or more expertise in:

  • Semiconductor knowledge: From basic to state-of-the-art semiconductor process integration, modules (photolithography, etch, deposition, Epitaxy, CMP) and semiconductor device physics at advanced technology nodes.
  • Scientific and high-performance computing: Numerical algorithms (FEM/FD/FVM), eigen/linear/PDE solvers, convex optimization, computational geometry, computer graphics with distributed processing, GPU acceleration, use of CUDA ecosystems.
  • SW/Programming skills: Proficiency in C/C++, CUDA, Python, Code Copilot, plus leveraging AI/ML to accelerate problem solving processes.
Key Skills & Attributes
  • Good management skills and capability to make commitment and delivery in time.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a passion for tackling complex computational challenges.
  • Ability to estimate software development tasks accurately and deliver on schedule.
