TNAA TotalMed RN is seeking a travel nurse RN ICU - Intensive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Boston, Massachusetts.

We're looking for Registered Nurses (RN) for an immediate travel opening in Boston, MA for our Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU).

The right RN should have at least 1 year of experience in a PCICU setting. Read below for more details.

As a PCICU Nurse, you will provide critical care to pediatric patients with congenital or acquired heart conditions, working closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide high-level care, monitor cardiovascular status, and support families through difficult times.

As a PCICU Nurse, you should be prepared to perform the following tasks:

  • Patient Care: Provide direct care to pediatric patients with cardiovascular conditions, including those recovering from heart surgery, congenital heart defects, or severe arrhythmias
  • Monitoring & Assessment: Continuously monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythms, oxygenation, and other critical parameters. Assess patients for changes in condition and respond appropriately
  • Medication Administration: Administer medications (including IV drips, blood products, and sedatives) according to protocol, monitor for side effects, and adjust dosages as needed
  • Ventilator Management: Assist with ventilator management, including non-invasive and invasive respiratory support, and ensure proper airway management
  • Cardiac Interventions: Assist with procedures like intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP), external pacemakers, or ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) as directed by the cardiology team
  • Family Communication: Provide clear, compassionate communication with patients' families, updating them on their child's condition, care plan, and prognosis. Offer emotional support and education to family members
  • Emergency Response: Respond swiftly to cardiac and respiratory emergencies, including code situations and rapid interventions in acute cardiovascular distress
  • Collaboration: Work alongside pediatric cardiologists, surgeons, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals in a collaborative environment to provide comprehensive care
  • Documentation: Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, changes in condition, and family interactions in the electronic health record (EHR)
  • Patient Education: Educate families and caregivers on post-operative care, recovery expectations, and signs of complications that may require attention

The ideal candidate must have at least one year of experience as an RN in a PCICU or similar critical care setting. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications are required. Additional certifications may be required. Must be eligible for state licensure.

PCICU Nurses should be able to stand or walk for long periods and must be able to bend, stoop, and lift with proper body mechanics. They should have exceptional critical thinking skills, strong communication abilities, and the ability to provide compassionate care under pressure. They must be comfortable working with critically ill pediatric patients and supporting families through emotionally challenging situations.
