We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Payroll Clerk to support weekly payroll operations for salaried, hourly, temporary, and production employees. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, maintaining payroll records, resolving employee pay inquiries, and providing payroll-related reporting to management. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, a commitment to confidentiality, and experience working with payroll and timekeeping systems.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Processing

  • Process weekly payroll for exempt, hourly, and temporary employees in accordance with established deadlines.
  • Review and audit employee timecards for exceptions, errors, and special pay code entries.
  • Ensure accurate application of overtime, double-time, premium pay, and other payroll adjustments.
  • Track exempt employee premium pay balances and usage.
  • Coordinate payroll distribution activities as needed.

Payroll Administration & Adjustments

  • Complete weekly payroll worksheets and supporting documentation related to deductions, benefit accruals, vacation advances, and vacation payouts.
  • Review and process payroll adjustment requests, investigating discrepancies and resolving issues as necessary.
  • Maintain payroll records and documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Employee & Supervisor Support

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for employee payroll questions and concerns.
  • Research and resolve payroll discrepancies in a timely and professional manner.
  • Provide payroll-related training, guidance, and reference materials to supervisors and department leaders.
  • Support employees and managers with timekeeping and payroll procedures.

Reporting & Analysis

  • Compile payroll data and prepare recurring management reports, including:
    • Overtime analysis
    • Employees working more than 60 hours
    • Consecutive days worked
    • Maintenance overtime detail
    • Other ad hoc payroll reports as requested
  • Maintain historical payroll and reporting data for trend analysis and operational support.
  • Assist with monitoring payroll balances, adjustments, and key metrics to support payroll accuracy.
Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of payroll, timekeeping, HR, accounting, or related administrative experience.
  • Experience working with payroll and timekeeping systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred

  • Experience with UKG/Kronos timekeeping and payroll systems.
  • Experience supporting hourly and manufacturing/production workforces.
  • Knowledge of payroll regulations, overtime calculations, and payroll best practices.

At Hormel Foods, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range.  The base hiring pay range for this role is between $16.50-$23.25 your actual base pay within that range will depend upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skill set, level of experience, and geographic market location.
