Temporary Staff Accountant/ Payroll Accountant
Albany, NY
Fusco Personnel has been retained to recruit for a Payroll Specialist for our client located in Albany, NY. This is a full-time, 1-year temporary opportunity.
The ideal candidate will be supporting the organization's accounting and payroll functions by performing reconciliations, preparing journal entries, processing payroll, and ensuring the accuracy of financial records.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform monthly fixed asset reconciliations and prepare related journal entries.
  • Complete investment account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
  • Process payroll accurately and timely in accordance with company policies and applicable regulations.
  • Update the salary versus budget file after each payroll cycle to support budget monitoring and financial reporting.
  • Scan and deposit checks to the bank and prepare the necessary journal entries to record deposits.
  • Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and timely resolution of outstanding items.
  • Remit retirement plan contributions and Health Savings Account (HSA) contributions within required deadlines.
  • Prepare and post month-end journal entries related to payroll, fixed assets, investments, and cash receipts.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to resolve accounting and payroll issues.
  • Assist with audits by providing requested documentation and reconciliations.
  • Perform other accounting and finance duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of accounting and payroll experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of general accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Experience with payroll processing and payroll tax reporting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/payroll software.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with fixed assets and investment accounting.
