Job description

Animal Caretaker at Ahimsa Safe Haven
Onsted, MI · Part-Time · Flexible Schedule (~15–30 hrs/week) · $15/hour

About Ahimsa Safe Haven

Ahimsa Safe Haven is a animal sanctuary in Onsted, Michigan, home to more than 120 rescued animals — pigs, cats, chickens, turkeys, guinea fowl, rabbits, turtles, and even a peacock. Every resident here was given up on once. Our job is to make sure none of them ever are again.

We're looking for an Animal Caretaker to help with the daily, hands-on work of keeping our pig, cat, and bird residents fed, clean, healthy, and loved.

What You'll Do
  • Feed and provide fresh water to cats, pigs, and birds throughout the day
  • Clean and maintain pig pens and bird coops/runs
  • Clean our two cat buildings daily (litter, sanitizing bowls, sweeping, mopping, spot-cleaning)
  • Spend time socializing with and providing enrichment for the animals
  • Watch for changes in behavior or health and report concerns to the team
  • Take part in occasional training to build your animal care skills
  • Lift bags of feed (50+ lbs) as part of daily chores
Schedule
  • Part-time, roughly 15–30 hours/week
  • Flexible days — mornings and afternoons available
  • Some weekend and holiday availability needed (animals need care every day!)
Pay: $15/hour

What We're Looking For
  • A genuine love for animals — experience is great, but heart matters more
  • Comfortable doing physical, outdoor, hands-on work in all weather
  • Able to lift 50+ lbs
  • Reliable, observant, and a good communicator with the team
  • No formal animal care background required — we'll teach you the rest
Why Work at Ahimsa

This isn't a desk job. You'll know the residents by name. You'll watch a once-fearful rescue pig learn to trust people again. You'll be part of a small, close-knit team that genuinely cares about getting this right for the animals and for each other.

If you've ever wanted work that actually means something at the end of the day, we'd love to meet you.

Apply today and help us give these animals the life they deserve.
