Job description

Responsible for full oversight of all phases of a concrete paving construction project including planning, directing, and coordinating construction, engineering, and scheduling activities of the work to ensure goals and objectives are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters by performing the required duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. Also responsible for aiding in the estimating process of concrete paving projects and being involved in the outlook and procurement of future concrete paving projects with a vast array of owners such as aviation, seaport, and highway authorities.
Job Description
  • Provide positive safety leadership; review field operations and ensure that the project provides a safe workplace
  • Management of concrete paving staff and equipment resources
  • Direct and coordinate activities of personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget
  • Assist subordinate supervisors in maintaining production on budget and schedule
  • Review project estimates and plans to determine schedule, estimated job cost, procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements, equipment needs and allotment of available resources to various phases of project
  • Anticipate project needs with sufficient lead-time to avoid delay of production
  • Establishes work plans and staffing for each phase of project; works closely with Human Resources in recruitment efforts as necessary
  • Oversees coordination with project staff to outline work plans, assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority
  • Review status and modify schedules or plans as required, and prepares project reports for management, owners, and subcontractors
  • Follow-up on directives in order to be continuously attentive to situations that are not progressing productively and for opportunities to improve performance
  • Confer with project personnel to provide technical advice and to resolve problems
  • Coordinate the preparation and updating of the project construction schedule as required by the contract documents
  • Responsible for claims management and documentation
  • Coordinate material purchases and equipment procurement
  • Develop and maintain business relationships and manage subcontractor, client/owner, engineers, JV partner(s), and unions if applicable
  • Maintain relationships with contracting and regulatory agencies, and executive management
  • Participate in project presentations to elected officials, general public, and other stake holders
  • Responsible for project closeout; secure loose ends by finalizing paperwork, obtaining retainages, supporting supervisors, and expediting claims
  • Debriefing of project to review all positive and negative aspects after completion
  • Ability to confidently negotiate any and all matters on behalf of the Company as they relate to cost, schedule, and contract matters with owner, subcontractor, or suppliers
  • Knowledge and understanding of prevailing wage rules
  • Be active in broader industry related committees and organizations to foster positive change for the benefit of the Company
  • Perform additional assignments per management's direction

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Civil Engineering or Construction Management is preferred
  • At least five (5) years of related experience; highway construction, concrete paving, and management experienced required
  • Experience with managing roadway projects with the Florida Department of Transportation, Aviation Authorities, or Port Authorities; knowledge of standard specifications for these entities is preferred
  • Knowledge and experience of federal, state, and local regulations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; Preferred proficiencies include Heavy Job / Heavy Bid and Primavera P6
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Goal oriented - ability to set goals and achieve them
  • Strong Interpersonal skills - able to lead diverse teams, as well as work well and persuade people at all organizational levels
  • Organizational ability - able to plan, prioritize, organize, and monitor activities and projects. Able to work well in a group environment and foster a team approach
  • Experience working with Gomaco and/or Wirtgen slip form paving trains preferred, including belt placer spreaders, Concrete pavers, texture/cure machines, and central mix concrete batch plants
  • Able to frequently work nights and weekends
  • Frequent travel throughout Florida is required
