Job description

Job Summary -

We are looking for a highly experienced Asphalt Superintendent to lead and oversee all field operations related to asphalt paving projects. This role is responsible for coordinating crews, equipment, subcontractors, materials, and schedules to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality paving work. The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of asphalt paving, strong leadership skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects or large-scale operations simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities -

  • Oversee day-to-day asphalt paving operations across multiple crews and job sites.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate labor, equipment, and materials to meet project timelines.
  • Ensure crews execute work according to specifications, safety standards, and quality expectations.
  • Manage crew foremen and ensure clear communication of job goals, schedules, and responsibilities.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot issues with paving techniques, site conditions, or staffing.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, project specs, and environmental requirements.
  • Collaborate with project managers, estimators, clients, and inspectors to maintain smooth operations and resolve concerns.
  • Track job site progress, quantities, and production rates; submit daily reports and documentation.
  • Drive a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement across crews.
  • Conduct site visits, safety audits, and pre-job meetings as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications -

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • 5+ years of asphalt paving experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership or superintendent role.
  • Strong knowledge of asphalt materials, mix types, paving techniques, and compaction methods.
  • Proven ability to manage and lead multiple crews in a fast-paced environment.
  • Working knowledge of grading, base prep, and paving equipment operation.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specs, grades, and job schedules.
  • Proficiency with daily reporting tools, timekeeping systems, and basic computer applications.
  • Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred.
  • Able to work long hours, including nights and weekends as required by the project.
  • Must be willing to travel overnight when projects are outside the local area.
