JOB SUMMARY:

Note: In the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, the term "conference" refers to the chapter of the organization, the local group of members. The St. Paul's SVdP Intern supports St. Paul's St. Vincent de Paul Conference.


The St. Paul's SVdP Intern will invite St. Paul's University Catholic Center and UW-Madison students to grow in spirituality, service and friendship through the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, particularly in the St. Paul's SVdP Conference. Key responsibilities include mission development, recruitment, administrative support, event publicity, and maintaining communication with university and local organizations. The person in this role will communicate and collaborate with St. Paul interns, staff, coordinators, and student leaders to support and promote the St. Vincent de Paul conference. The Intern, will attend and support conference events, may manage social media and will serve as an ambassador for the SVdP conference.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with SVdP Membership Staff in developing the St. Paul's St. Vincent de Paul conference (chapter). This will include recruitment, administrative and publicity support for the SVdP conference and special events, formation in Vincentian spirituality, communication with University and Madison-area organizations, and serving as a resource for the SVdP conference and its members. Attend and support SVdP activities at St. Paul's. Disseminate information effectively to SVdP members. Serve as a support to SVdP conference officers and in particular, to the president.
  • Collaborate with St. Paul's interns, coordinators and student leaders, particularly those involved with service. Support service at St. Paul's, meet regularly with service-related St. Paul's leaders and facilitate ongoing communication between SVdP and other campus ministry and service efforts at St. Paul's.
  • Attend St. Paul's events: Welcome Week Mall Tables, Introductory Service Meetings, various large-group gatherings (i.e. Newman Dinner, Alpha-O, Mustard Seed, etc.) to recruit members, establish relationships, publicize events, and support SVdP and St. Paul's.
  • Coordinate a SVdP service trip open to all St. Paul's students. Communicate and collaborate with St. Paul's leaders and staff far in advance about this opportunity.
  • Work with St. Paul's staff to keep St. Paul's SVdP information on the St. Paul's website current. Meet and communicate with St. Paul's staff periodically to maintain common knowledge, expectations and understanding regarding roles and SVdP conference plans. Maintain and/or ensure social media accounts for the conference are kept current.
  • Grow in understanding of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul through trainings and formation.
  • Attend several SVdP District Council meetings each year and support activities of the SVdP District Council of Madison.
  • Serve as an ambassador for the St. Paul's SVdP Conference as well as for the Society in general
  • Promote positive morale in the conference and support fellow conference members
  • The Intern is invited and encouraged to attend the SVdP National Assembly, depending upon academic schedule/availability. The stipend for attending this event (multiple days) will be $360, plus all travel expenses will be covered.
  • Participate in an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration, listening, fostering dialogue, and facilitating joint problem solving while supporting an inclusive and equitable organization.
  • Adhere to the Safeguarding Policy by ensuring timely completion of mandatory training, staying updated on relevant training modules, and undergoing the necessary background checks to maintain compliance.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS & KEYS TO SUCCESS

  • Experience in Administrative Support: Desired experience in providing administrative and publicity support, particularly in a non-profit or volunteer-based organization.
  • Event Coordination: Experience in organizing and supporting events, including recruitment and communication efforts.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively disseminate information and collaborate with various stakeholders.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively with interns, coordinators, student leaders, and other staff members.
  • Display a willingness to communicate and interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultures, varying abilities, ethnicities, and races.
  • Demonstrate the implementation of best practices as required by the SVdP Safeguarding policy when interacting with children and vulnerable adults.
  • For the safety of the clients SVdP serves and as per the Safeguarding Policy, this position requires the successful completion of a criminal background check.
