To thrive as a Pattern Designer, you need a strong background in textile or fashion design, a keen eye for detail, and knowledge of fabric properties, often supported by a relevant degree or diploma. Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software like Adobe Illustrator, AutoCAD, or specialized pattern-making programs is commonly required. These abilities are crucial for creating accurate, innovative patterns that meet both design and production requirements in a fast-paced industry.

What are the typical responsibilities of a pattern designer?

Pattern Designers are responsible for creating, modifying, and testing patterns for garments or textiles, either by hand or using CAD software. Their daily tasks often include meeting with designers or product managers to discuss concepts, converting sketches into precise patterns, and collaborating with sample makers to ensure fit and quality. They may also assess pre-production samples and make necessary adjustments to improve manufacturability. Working with various departments, including production, design, and quality assurance, is common to ensure seamless workflow from concept to finished product. This collaborative environment enables Pattern Designers to contribute directly to the success of new fashion lines or textile products.

Job description

About the role

We're hiring a Product Designer to lead the design of some of Chime's most important member experiences across Growth, Spending, or Lending. This is a highly influential individual contributor role for a designer who combines exceptional visual craft with systems thinking and product strategy. You'll help define not just how our products look and feel, but what we build and why-creating experiences that millions of members rely on to make financial progress.

You'll partner closely with Product, Engineering, Research, Data, and Content Design to solve complex customer problems, shape product direction, and deliver elegant, intuitive experiences from concept through launch. If you're energized by ambiguity, obsessed with craft, and excited to raise the quality bar across an organization, we'd love to meet you.

The base salary offered for this role and level of experience will begin at $174,000 and up to $245,000. Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, competitive equity package, and benefits. The actual base salary offered may be higher, depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience.

In this role, you can expect to
  • Own the end-to-end design vision and execution for complex, high-impact product initiatives across Growth, Spending, or Lending.
  • Shape product strategy alongside Product, Engineering, Research, and Data partners, helping define what we build-not just how it looks.
  • Transform ambiguous opportunities into elegant, intuitive experiences that simplify financial decision-making for millions of members.
  • Design polished, production-ready user experiences across mobile and web with exceptional attention to visual craft, interaction design, accessibility, and usability.
  • Use customer research, experimentation, analytics, and sound design judgment to make informed decisions and continuously improve member outcomes.
  • Contribute to the evolution of Chime's design system while establishing new patterns that scale across products.
  • Raise the quality bar for design through thoughtful critique, collaboration, mentorship, and a relentless commitment to craft.
To thrive in this role, you have
  • A portfolio that demonstrates exceptional visual craft, polished interaction design, and end-to-end product thinking across shipped consumer products. Visual excellence is a core requirement for this role.
  • Extensive experience designing and shipping consumer-facing digital products for mobile and web, with ownership of complex product areas from strategy through execution.
  • A track record of influencing product direction through close partnership with cross-functional leaders across Product, Engineering, Research, and Data.
  • Deep expertise with Figma and modern prototyping tools, with a strong understanding of design systems and scalable interaction patterns.
  • Experience using customer research, experimentation, and product metrics to inform design decisions and iterate on solutions.
  • Strong systems thinking with the ability to balance member needs, business objectives, and technical constraints in complex environments.
  • Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to clearly articulate design rationale and influence decisions across a wide range of stakeholders.
