To thrive as a Pattern Designer, you need a strong background in textile or fashion design, a keen eye for detail, and knowledge of fabric properties, often supported by a relevant degree or diploma. Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software like Adobe Illustrator, AutoCAD, or specialized pattern-making programs is commonly required. Creativity, strong problem-solving abilities, and effective collaboration skills are important soft skills in this field. These abilities are crucial for creating accurate, innovative patterns that meet both design and production requirements in a fast-paced industry.

What are the typical responsibilities of a pattern designer?

Pattern Designers are responsible for creating, modifying, and testing patterns for garments or textiles, either by hand or using CAD software. Their daily tasks often include meeting with designers or product managers to discuss concepts, converting sketches into precise patterns, and collaborating with sample makers to ensure fit and quality. They may also assess pre-production samples and make necessary adjustments to improve manufacturability. Working with various departments, including production, design, and quality assurance, is common to ensure seamless workflow from concept to finished product. This collaborative environment enables Pattern Designers to contribute directly to the success of new fashion lines or textile products.

What is a pattern designer?

A Pattern Designer creates templates or designs used for manufacturing textiles, clothing, or other patterned products. They work with software or manual drafting techniques to develop precise patterns that ensure proper fit and aesthetics. The Company is an equal employment opportunity employer.

The Enterprise Architect partners with business and technology leaders to translate organizational strategy into enterprise capabilities, target-state architectures, transition roadmaps, and informed technology investment decisions. The role provides enterprise-wide direction for application and technology portfolios, including modernization, rationalization, lifecycle management, technical debt reduction, and responsible adoption of AI and emerging technologies.

Serving as a trusted advisor, the Enterprise Architect evaluates business value, cost, risk, architecture, data readiness, security, resilience, and organizational impact to recommend whether capabilities and technologies should be enhanced, consolidated, modernized, replaced, or retired. The role leads through influence, enables cross-domain decisions, and helps teams balance enterprise standards and reuse with the needs of individual operating companies.

Business and Technical Strategy

  • Partner with business and technology leaders to understand strategic priorities, customer and employee needs, operating constraints, and growth opportunities.
  • Translate business strategy into enterprise capabilities, target architectures, transition roadmaps, and sequenced investment choices.
  • Frame recommendations, business cases, and solutions in terms of business value, cost, risk, speed, resilience, and organizational impact, not technical views alone.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify processes, rationalize platforms, improve reuse, and strengthen enterprise leverage while respecting individual company needs.
  • Maintain contact with vendors, industry peers, and professional associations to keep informed of existing and emerging industry trends, standards, and technologies.

Architecture Direction and Portfolio Guidance

  • Develop and maintain architecture principles, standards, guidelines, business capability models, and roadmaps that support enterprise priorities.
  • Provide architecture guidance across initiatives and portfolios, identifying dependencies, redundancies, technical debt, and opportunities for reuse.
  • Influence portfolio planning and technology lifecycle decisions through research, data-driven rationale, market trends, target architectures, and roadmaps.

Solution Guidance and Governance

  • Advise product, application, data, infrastructure, security, and engineering teams on solution direction and key design decisions.
  • Lead or participate in architecture reviews with a pragmatic focus on business value, risk, standards alignment, technical debt, interoperability, scalability, and long-term sustainability.
  • Create clear, decision-enabling architecture artifacts appropriate to their audience and the decisions being made.
  • Escalate material risks and exceptions while helping teams identify viable paths forward.

AI and Emerging Technology

  • Partner with business and technology leaders to shape the enterprise approach to AI, including generative and agentic AI, by connecting use cases to business outcomes, data readiness, architecture, security, legal, compliance, and responsible use requirements.
  • Guide teams in selecting fit-for-purpose AI patterns, platforms, models, tooling, and integration approaches, including build-versus-buy decisions.
  • Assess AI and emerging technology opportunities through experiments and proofs-of-concept with clear hypotheses, guardrails, adoption considerations, and success metrics.
  • Promote AI literacy among leaders, architects, engineers, and delivery teams by explaining capabilities, limitations, risks, and practical application patterns.

Influence, Leadership, and Change

  • Build trusted relationships across business and technology organizations and communicate effectively with executives, business leaders, and technical groups.
  • Lead enterprise architecture initiatives and support adoption through stakeholder alignment, communication, ongoing support arrangements, and change management.
  • Mentor architects and engineers, strengthen architecture practices, and contribute reusable knowledge to the technical community.
  • Create clarity in ambiguous situations, facilitate decisions across competing priorities, and promote accountability for outcomes.

Required

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in technology, developing/engineering solutions and leading multiple cross-domain engineering initiatives.
  • 6+ years of experience spanning multiple business and technology domains, with substantial depth in at least one architecture discipline and working experience across two or more additional disciplines.
  • Proven ability to connect business strategy, capabilities, processes, technology, risk, and cost into coherent recommendations and transition roadmaps.
  • Experience designing, developing, or modernizing technology capabilities supporting commercial insurance operations including translating business requirements into solution, application, integration, data, and/or platform decisions.
  • Working knowledge of modern AI concepts and architectures, including generative AI, agentic systems, data and model dependencies, integration patterns, security, governance, and responsible AI.
  • Working knowledge of public cloud platforms and modern data, integration, platform engineering, DevOps, SRE, and cybersecurity practices.
  • Strong executive communication, facilitation, consulting, and decision-framing skills, including the ability to explain complex topics in concise business terms.
  • Ability to lead through influence, navigate ambiguity, build alignment, and produce results across organizational boundaries.
  • Strong analytical judgment, curiosity, customer focus, and commitment to collaboration and continuous learning.

Preferred

  • Experience as an Enterprise Architect or in a comparable enterprise-wide strategy or execution role.
  • Experience applying AI to business or technology use cases and participating in AI governance, enablement, or platform decisions.
  • Experience with product-oriented delivery, Agile methods, architecture repositories, capability-based planning, and technology portfolio management.
