AFR Furniture Rental is seeking an experienced and results-oriented safety leader to help shape the future of safety and compliance across our growing national organization.

This is more than a traditional safety role. We are looking for a leader who wants to build, influence, and drive meaningful change. The Director, Safety & Compliance will play a key role in strengthening safety performance, reducing organizational risk, and developing the programs, processes, and accountability that support long-term success.

Working closely with Executive Leadership, Operations leaders, General Managers, Branch Managers, and Human Resources, this individual will help establish and standardize safety and compliance programs across AFR's nationwide network of warehouse, transportation, delivery, and office operations. 

This position is ideally based at our Corporate Headquarters in Pennsauken, New Jersey. We will also consider candidates located in the Phoenix, Arizona or Miami, Florida markets. Preference will be given to candidates located near one of these locations to support close collaboration with executive leadership and business operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of AFR's enterprise-wide safety and compliance strategy.
  • Drive OSHA, DOT, fleet safety, workers' compensation, and regulatory compliance initiatives.
  • Partner with operational leaders to improve safety performance across warehouse, transportation, delivery, and office operations.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Develop meaningful safety metrics, dashboards, and executive reporting.
  • Enhance safety training, compliance programs, and leadership accountability.
  • Partner with operational leadership to implement safety programs, drive accountability, and support continuous improvement efforts across all locations.
  • Support organizational efforts to reduce workplace injuries, vehicle incidents, workers' compensation costs, and overall risk exposure.
  • Travel regularly to AFR facilities nationwide to build relationships, evaluate operational risks, and support the consistent execution of safety and compliance initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Risk Management, Industrial Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive safety, compliance, risk management experience.
  • Experience supporting multi-site operations required.
  • Experience within warehousing, logistics, transportation, distribution, manufacturing, or related industries strongly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations, DOT/FMCSA compliance, workers' compensation programs, incident investigations, and safety management systems.
  • Demonstrated success developing safety programs, improving safety performance, and reducing organizational risk.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence leaders at all levels of the organization.

Preferred Certifications

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
  • Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST)
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification or similar continuous improvement credentials

Travel Requirements

Frequent travel to AFR facilities nationwide is required. Travel is expected to be significant, particularly during the first 12-18 months, as safety and compliance programs are developed, implemented, and standardized across the organization.
