JOB SUMMARY
The Safety & Risk Management Coordinator
is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure
school environment through proactive monitoring, risk management, and emergency
preparedness. This role serves as a visible safety presence on campus while also supporting
school operations as a secondary function, including providing backup support to the
Operations Coordinator as needed.
PERFORMANCE PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain a visible and active presence throughout the school campus to promote safety and security
  • Patrol assigned areas of the campus and monitor for unauthorized individuals or suspicious activity
  • Ensure all visitors and staff comply with identification and check-in procedures
  • Assist with monitoring and guiding scholar behavior in common areas (cafeteria, hallways, restrooms, arrival/dismissal areas, and outdoor spaces)
  • Support administration in addressing scholar disciplinary concerns and de-escalating conflicts
  • Assist with managing disturbances or incidents and notify administration when additional support is needed
  • Participate in risk identification and provide recommendations to improve school safety practices
  • Serve as a member of the school safety and operations team, supporting:
    • Emergency preparedness drills
    • Emergency response procedures
    • Development and maintenance of safety plans
  • Maintain and monitor emergency equipment and supplies (e.g., evacuation kits)
  • Provide support with crowd control and supervision during school events and after-school activities
  • Collaborate with school leadership to ensure compliance with safety protocols and procedures
  • Assist with documenting incidents and maintaining safety-related records
  • Demonstrates professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to student safety
  • Serves as a positive role model for scholars and staff
  • Maintains confidentiality of all scholar and staff information
  • Follows all school policies, procedures, and applicable laws
  • Assist administration in handling urgent situations, interruptions, and operational needs
  • Provide assistance during high-traffic times (arrival, dismissal, emergencies, and special events)
  • Support general operational needs to ensure continuity of school functions in the absence of the Operations Coordinator
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Strong ability to maintain situational awareness and make sound decisions in both routine and emergency situations
  • Effective conflict resolution and de-escalation skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with scholars, staff, families, and community members
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience (school safety, security, military, law enforcement support, or similar field preferred)
  • Experience working in a school or youth environment strongly preferred

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE
  • CPR & AED Certification required (or ability to obtain upon hire)
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) Certifications (100, 200, 700) preferred or required within a specified timeframe

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Works primarily during school hours
  • Must be available for before-school/after-school events and activities, as needed
  • Frequent movement throughout campus required

PHYSICAL ABILITIES & WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Ability to stand, walk, and patrol campus for extended periods
  • Ability to lift, push, or carry objects up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations
  • Ability to intervene in and de-escalate physical conflicts when necessary
